How to handle menu text and links for SEO

Hello,
i have a website with around 50 products.

The problem is that i have a menu on top of each page where the user can access directly each one of these 50 products.

Is there a way so that search engines do not count the text and the urls of the menu when they crawl the page ? (the descriptive text for each menu item is sepparated from the anchor 's text)

I have read that each webpage should have at most 100 links so if i have around 70 links on the menu this is not very good.

If i use rel="nofollow" for each link on the menu will Google count these links in their maximum 100 links per page ? But what about the descriptive text of the products (they are placed in a sepparate div element).

I think that Google does not understand my webpages correctly but sees a huge menu and misinterpretes the contents of each product's webpage.

Thank you.

    Hey Alex

The only way that Google will not count your links or text is if you either put rel=nofollow after each link, which you're already doing, or if you check the no index box for a page and just not have it indexed at all.

I have always used the rel=nofollow with my sites so that Google doesn't get confused about the SEO. . also, I actually install the WP plugin XML sitemap. . . just an extra plugin that ensures that Google knows its way around your site.

    Hope this helps you out!
