SEO Expert Advice - Can Design Changes Decreased My Ranking ?

Hello, I have too many questions. Please answer what you can. It's urgent and so important for me.

I have a blog, which ranks good on Google, but the conversion is low. It's obvious that the design is not good and I have to make some changes.Other people pay more than 1 dollars for these keywords, I make less than 10 cents. It's a blog: elitesurveysites.com

Most of the people find me from my internal posts. That's why I plan to add a new "conversion element" at the top of my site. There I plan to place a text with a good call to action, registration form, links to top survey sites, and later a video. This element will be where my title is now. That way I hope most of the people will register, because they will find this element at first.

I'm worried about the SEO impact of that element. Here are several of my main questions and I'll be very thankful if you can help me.Please give me expert advice.I've already hired an expert in conversion rate and we talked about these changes.

- Should I place the text as image or as html.If I place it as html and I start to split it, can it affect my seo? There will be h1 elements, which can affect my SEO?If I place an image I'll be able to change it without knowing of Google. But isn't that hiding something from them? What would be better?

- There will be a button "Sign up" and then there will be a pop up.Is that OK for Google?I don't think so.

- He told me that he will create something like a new page on this area and he will nofollow and noindex it?I don't think this is a good idea?To noindex a top element on your site?

- He told me that he will use optimizely or visual website optimiser. And they will hide these things from Google. Can someone let me know will these things be visible for Google or not? What is better?if they are visible, then too many changes won't be OK, right? If not visible is that OK for Google?

- I also plan a new page with a list of the top paid surveys.People will access it once they register.Should I noindex it?What would happen if I noindex it and for example someone start to share and link it?The page won't be linked from my site.

- I also want to make my affiliate links with redirects.Should I noindex my redirects?

Please let me know.

  • Yes, design can have a negative impact, if I viewed that website I would have bounced immediately and google takes factors like bounce rate, time spent on page into account when ranking a page.

Id be interested to hear what other people say about the noindex questions.

    Pop ups are fine.

I would suggest going with something like optimizely and test out all of the options, but certainly get the website tested and redesigned

Thanks for your answer.Btw, can I ask you a question? Why would you leave immediately? It's true that the design is not good, but people visiting my blog are interested to make money with surveys. What are my top 3 mistakes (reasons) why would you leave? If you want to make money online, will the design stop you?

You're worrying too much about the search engines. Build a website for your visitors. Focus everything on user engagement, user interaction and user happiness. Forget about what the search engines think. If people love your website, Google will grow to love it too.

This is what happens when you look too far into "SEO"

I've just told you. Why would Google care if you change the content of an image at the top of your forum? They don't. You can sit here and ask for "advice" all day, and you're going to keep getting the same answers.

Nobody here is going to tell you what to do. Digital Marketing is all about experimenting and analysing your own data and results - that's how you learn. We're not going to hold your hand and show you how to do it to help make you successful.

HTML Is the best SEO option - Maybe try some custom fonts if your want a better look

    - There will be a button "Sign up" and then there will be a pop up.Is that OK for Google?I don't think so.

Your Sign up will likely be in Javascript and Google will ignore it. I have never heard of google disliking Sign ups.

    - He told me that he will create something like a new page on this area and he will nofollow and noindex it?I don't think this is a good idea?To noindex a top element on your site?

Unless your doing something shady on the webpage, or you want stop robots from finding e-mail information or other such things, nothing should be noidex or nofollow IMO

    - He told me that he will use optimizely or visual website optimiser. And they will hide these things from Google. Can someone let me know will these things be visible for Google or not? What is better?if they are visible, then too many changes won't be OK, right? If not visible is that OK for Google?

Why are you trying to hide things from google? If you want to make it totaly invisible use obfuscated javascript links. Again though I would wonder what was so shady you had to hide it.

    - I also plan a new page with a list of the top paid surveys.People will access it once they register.Should I noindex it?What would happen if I noindex it and for example someone start to share and link it?The page won't be linked from my site.

Really, you want to hide this also? Is there malware on it or something? Is it criminal?

    - I also want to make my affiliate links with redirects.Should I noindex my redirects?

This is the only question that makes sense to me, Obfuscated Javascript links, or no follow. Not sure why your going to redirect them, but have fun
Seems to me your thinking waaaaaaaay to much about this. Google would likely label your website as wtf. Very simple old school HTLM website do very well without all this thought put into it. Think of the acronym K.I.S.S.

Something to think about, nofollow bleeds pagerank, but does not pass it. Each time you do a no follow it is a dead end for google and all your SEO efforts. Best to leave all the doors within your website open in my opinion.

Javascript links may or may not pass pagerank, it is semi invisible.

Obfuscated javascript does not bleed pagerank or pass it, it is invisible. (The risk though is some malware is passed this way so you might end up getting flagged)

nofollow is designed for untrusted outbounds links.

    Thank you so much PBScott,

I agree with your answer. Most of these thinks that you answered me are right, I think.I just wanted to ask what other people think about that.I think people always have to be careful with Google.

So, you advice me to nofollow my redirects. Here is what I plan.I will make something like that:

mysite/rediret-to-... and I will redirect this to my affiliate links
I will nofollow this when I link it from my site.I think that is Ok.Why I would leak pr to my affiliate links?

And if I make a page where I redirect people after signing, will it be visible to Google?I won't link it from my site.

HTML Is the best SEO option
The problem is that I'll change SEO factors often ...

I just wanted to let you know that I researched the topic. Here is what I found. It seems Google will not make problems, but I just wanted to let you know about some possible problems. Here are several articles:

I'm also not sure only about one thing.I plan to make several pages for the split. All of them will contain h1 tags and will be placed at the top of the blog. These are things that affects the ranking and Google won't like to see them changes often. Will that be a problem?Or I have to noindex these pages, so they won't affect the ranking.

The niche you are in - make money online, isn't favored by Google frankly. So, I think you should weigh other traffic options also.

Having a great design can really make a big impact on your search engine traffic, because many themes are not well optimized from the SEO point of view.

Either they are lacking in schema standards or taking too much time to load, which makes a huge negative impact in rankings.

My votes for Genesis Framework as I am using it for all my blogs.
