How to best handle the reposting of my guest article on my own blog

I wrote an article for a magazine who publish it on their website as a pdf. I have the authorization to repost the article on my own blog at the conditions to do not modify the content and to mention the magazine which had originally published the article.

From my understanding, the best practice would be to use the canonical tag on my blog to point Google to the pdf as the version to index. I don't mind the original version to be picked by Google over mine however, I am concerned about the pdf format (people don't necessarily want to download a file especially on mobile). In addition, the original article mention my website but does not link to it, so there is no referral traffic that can be tracked. The domain authority of the magazine's website is much higher than my domain authority.

Considering this situation, I'd like to know what would be the best action to take to:
- Ensure my article to be searchable and consume with the minimum of friction
- Convert a maximum of readers (= getting them to go on my website)

A few questions that may help me to understand better my options:
  • Is there a way to have my blog post picked by Google with or without the intervention of the original publisher on its own version?
  • Would the two versions be considered by Google as duplicate content even though one is a pdf and the other a blog post?
  • If I use the canonical tag on my version, will all the link juice from my blog be transferred to the pdf version?
