I made a new site and have been doing some heavy back linking to it.

I expected to do the google dance and was fine with that because I new it would settle down after a while. But something happened that I didnt expect.

when i did site:mysite.com this morning all my pages came up as indexed. But now when I do site:mysite.com only the contact us, and services are indexed. Not the home page.

Is this all part of the google dance?

Yes, you will see some strange things happening in google when your site is really new. Just keep building steady quality links and 95% of the time you will be fine.

Strange things keep happening. This is the world of SEO, so be prepared to expect the unexpected. However soon the problem should be rectified.

Never go heavy on backlinking for new sites. Google probably flagged you as a spammer. Chances are you are sandboxed and you could be there for weeks or months.

The same happened to my new site, did some backlinking to it (about 50 in 5 days), and all my pages are indexed except my homepage that received all the links.

I'm sure this is only temporary

Great advice. I hope people follow it and don't get links to their sites, especially if they're competing in the same niches I am.

As Angela has stated, Google's not Zeus looking down from Mt. Olympus waiting to zap websites that stray from perfect compliance with webmaster guidelines. Mostly what people see are the result of two things.

First, it's the natural fluctuations of the algorithms, especially when it comes to new domains. Brand new domains will tend to bounce around as Google figures out how to rank them and how much it trusts them. They can even not be indexed in some data centers for a time. People tend to panic over this and come up with wild theories about Google's omnipotent behavior that punishes them for getting 20 social bookmarking links and 10 high PR blog comment links to their brand new domain.

Second, it's using a script that leaves a footprint that Google doesn't like. This can be BANS (Build A Niche Store), YACG (Yet Another Content Generator) or other automated website generation tools that leave a known footprint and generate a ton of thin content. This is always for content or scripts that are running on your site, not off-site activities.

I think I might have gotten the google slap, cuz my other 2 pages that have no backlinks to them are still indexed. I will wait and see. I hope not but who know.

If I let this site sit for a while then retry to index it, would that be my best option?

I'm starting to think that doing a lot of quick backlinking is ok if you website is established. But if it is a new site and a whole bunch of backlinks popup almost overnight google might be a little cautious.

But like I said IDK. I'm going to stop backlinking and let it sit for a while and see what happens. I hope the homepage gets reindexed.

    Perry,
I wouldn't count too much on LSI as it has pretty much been proven not to work...

This is from what I've heard and my own experience, I don't believe in the whole "too much backlinking" thing. But that's just my opinion, but then, I don't do it all within 3 days, more like 2 weeks.

@jlae6402 I think so too. But I think it should be spread out over a longer time. I think once you have backlinks in place you can then do more back linking in a day
