Help with address change for Google local?

My company is planning an address change in the near future. I am an independent contractor and have my own Google places page at my companies address which is finally ranking on Google local. The address is changing but I am still in the same city. I'm really nervous about making any changes and I want to make sure I make the change in the right sequence. Do I update my Citation listings before changing my address in Google local? Is there anyway to mitigate any negative impact on my Google local ranking? This is extremely important to me, all my business comes from the internet. I can't afford to do it wrong.

Do people need to come to you? if you leave the old address there, that
might be a red flag to people if you tell them your address has changed, but
you have made no effort to change it online.

Changing your address should not hurt, if your new address has the same
    population demo as the old.

If google is the only way you get business, then you'd better rethink
    your business plan.

I don't know that there is any perfect sequence to do this in. I have tried a number of variations. I believe Google recommends that you close the location, and setup a new listing. The problem with that is you lose the authority/history of the old listing, which really sucks. Starting fresh is like starting at the back of the bus all over again.

I would try first updating all the citations, and then when they have been re indexed, change the Google listing. My thinking is that Google will go out, crawl the new citation data, and then decide if you are to still be trusted. If they find nothing, that doesn't bode too well for you. If they see that you are everywhere, well that is a better story.

I would expect some turbulence in your rankings.

Do it everywhere you list your business.

"Google places page at my companies address which is finally ranking on Google local."

For what keyword you rank? It will effect because if you use place name in keyword, address change
will a problem. If there is no place name in keyword it doesn't affect your ranking.

Plan your office shifting date. Change the address in listing & send the pin. Your new address will not be visible until you re-verify the listing.

Verify your listing the day, you shift your office and that's it. Clicks can be decrease but not vanish & soon, your listing will rank on this new address as-well.

    All the best!

Is the company will also change its phone #?

In my years of building local citation, I always edit all existing citations. In that manner, there are times that when Google sees this new address coming from authority sites, Google automatically update your G+listing.
