    Hey

You should try the Traffic Travis software. Its a free software that allows you to do a full competitor analysis on SEO, backlinks, and keywords. Plus it keeps you updated on how well your site is performing and shows you what needs to be done in order to outrank your competitors.

    Hope this helps you out!

I used to use SEOattack.org, but they seem to have been taken down. Other than that as mentioned above both Market Samurai and Traffic Travis have good competitor analysis tools. I prefer Traffic Travis as it can evaluate competitiveness for more than one keyword at a time.

I think the first step is to do keyword research. You have to check the keyword volume of your competitor's keywords. After that check internal back links of his website. Through this you will able to know that you can beat the client ranking or not.

Competitor Analysis is an important part of the strategic planning process in online/offline business. These are following questions keep in mind when you analysis your competitors:
    - Who are your competitors?
    - What are the objectives of your competitors?
    - What strategies are your competitors pursuing and how successful are these strategies?
    - What are the strengths and weaknesses of your competitors?
    - What kind of change you need to your competitors?
I think these are enough for Analysis a competitor and will help to create unique & best strategy for your business. Follow.net & Traffic Travis are good tolls for this purpose.

There are many tools available online for doing competitor analysis. Some of them are free while others are paid. If you don't want to spend money then you can check with backlinkswatch.com, internetninjas.com.

But if you can afford paid sites, then you can go for seomoz.com, seoprofiler.com & opensiteexplorer.com

In any of the above tool you don't need to do anything, just write down the web address of the competitor and it will show you the result.

Hope this will help you. Please ask if any further help needed.

If you're speaking strictly from an SEO perspective, you'll want to do the following.

    1. Get the top 5 sites that you consider direct competitors. These should be sites that are performing well in the search results.
    2. Take the URL of each site and enter it into Majestic SEO. Then click on "backlinks" and take a look at CF and TF (citation flow and trust flow) for the referring sites. Any that are above say 20 for both metrics, are inbound links that are worth replicating, or at least looking closer at.
    3. Cross reference those links/domains in ahrefs to determine exactly where the links reside on those sites, and work towards replicating.

    Essentially, you want to know...

    a) Where they're getting their links
    b) Which ones are actually worth something

    1) Find who your SEO competitors are:-

Identifying your competition isn't that easy. Your competitors could be sites in your niche, sites that rank well for your major keywords, or direct competitors for your long tail keywords, etc.

    2) Visit your competitors' sites and analyze them:-

You should be watching if their sites are designed professionally, if they have much content, what the quality of their content is, whether they use static or dynamic URLs, etc.

    3) Analyze the keywords your competitors use:-

You might have some difficulty identifying the keywords your competition uses because what you think to be top keywords for your niche, might not be on their list at all.

    4) Check the competition's backlinks:-

Backlinks are the other backbone of good SEO rankings. This is why you need to thoroughly examine the backlinks of the competition. Look for their number and origin, anchor text, etc.

    5) Evaluate your competition's presence on social media:-

Social media tend to drive lots of traffic to a site. This is why you can't skip a check how your competitors are doing on social media.

This same thread just keeps popping up. True KW research involves analyzing the SERP's by hand. Tools are good but you cannot rely on a number or a tool to make such an important decision. If you can't analyze the top 10 by hand you'll never know what you need to do to rank.

Here are some steps about how to do competitor analysis-
Step 1: Find Where Content Lives- Begin by performing a website audit of your competitors with the aim of determining where content is housed on their site. This is the quickest part of the content analysis and sets you up to perform the next steps more easily.

Step 2: Perform a Content Audit- There are three things you'll want to tally in your audit; the first two in this list should be based on content asset type, while the third can stand alone.
    1. Quantity of each content asset type published
    2. Frequency each content asset type is published
    3. Distribution of topics discussed

    Step 3: Evaluate Content Quality-
    How accurate is their content?
Are there rampant spelling and grammatical errors?
How in-depth does the content go -- does it just scratch the surface at an introductory level, or does it go into advanced concepts?
What tone do they adopt in their content?
Is their content long or short? Keep in mind that both are acceptable, as long as the content is helpful.

Step 4: Establish Their SEO Focus- You can perform a more qualitative assessment of your competitor's SEO by evaluating how keywords are used in the content samples from Step 3 in the following areas:
    Page title
    URL architecture
    Title
    H1 tags
    Copy's keyword density
    Image alt text
    Use of internal linking

Step 5: Research the Integration of Social Media Into Their Content Strategy- Visit the following social media sites to determine if your competitors have a presence:
    Facebook
    Twitter
    LinkedIn
    YouTube
    Google+
    Pinterest
