Does updating my WP blog make the whole site look like it has fresh content?

I have a site, let's call it

www.maindomain. com

then I have a wp blog subdomain (I think it's called?), let's call it www.maindomain. com/blog

If I update the blog's, would that "give credit" to main site as having fresh content?

The main site is working like a well oiled machine, and I work to change little things to increase conversions, but don't want to make major design changes, as that may upset the machine... so I'm hoping updating blog posts is good enough?

Anytime you had content to a site even if it's another section of the site your whole site will get credit..

It's on page and off page that get you ranked
