For my, my seo report justifies to the client to spend the following month. Aside from seeing actual rankings / increase calls / more site orders, its the next tangible thing to them.

When you run brand new SEO campaigns and you know results are going to take months, you manage the clients expectations through the reports.

SEO works not given result overnight. Secure the SERP after lots of work. Most of the client are paying you but they did not seen result after a month. Thats'why need to send a proper work report & raking status report to client what we had done for every month.

To be honest, i barely do unless if the client request for it.
Maybe because most webmasters knows how to check it or know if there is an upsurge in relevant term traffic.

    Basically, SEO result doesn't hide.

    It's very client dependent.

Some are only interested in results and don't care about what you did to achieve them, so they only want to see progress in terms of results (Whether that be ranking increases, traffic increases etc).

Others, though, might already have some knowledge about SEO and they want to see specifically what you've been doing.

I think it'd be strange for a client to not want to see any sort of "report" that what they're paying for is working.

Giving your client a basic understanding of SEO and monthly reports allows them to understand the research you have put into their niche, how you are helping them get a jump on competition, how the process works so they do not become impatient, and in the end, it will give them a better understanding of your Technique, Pricing, and Approach.

We don't send reports, I know a lot of mainstream seo companies will send you nice glossy looking monthly reports but then your rankings don't even budge, instead we give our clients a portal where they can check their keyword rankings in real time along with charts and stats etc......we're focused on the objective of increasing rankings not giving "nice reports".....

Well, I guess there's just no reason we just send the report to let the clients know what we are doing all this time to make his/her site ranked over the site. I mean its more like a record about what you are doing or what you are doing not !!!

We require to maintain reports because our client will see what we are doing and a trust will be maintained for this transparency in work.
and also we will be getting a detail of changes coming in our results.

Reporting helps let your clients know that something is actually happening for the money being paid, especially if it is a new SEO campaign that could take some time to see results.

If you're actually getting results for clients, why wouldn't you send them a nice report where they can visually see those results? Your best interest is in keeping those clients on board with you as long as possible and showing them the results every month can certainly help in that regard.
