Should I make social links no-follow ?

by Beardo 8 replies
I have a bunch of links on my homepage that point to external sites like the sites facebook, google plus, twitter etc pages. Are these links sucking juice from my homepage ? Should I make them no-follow in the hope it will contribute to a stronger pr for the homepage ?

In my personal opnion, I don't think you may need to do that. It's not your's, but I am sure all of us have links that point to the sites that you mentioned in your discussion. I hope someone else will throw some light on this topic too.

Making them nofollow does not conserve PR on your page.

If you want to conserve PR, put the links into Javascript so that Google cannot read them.

IMO, any links you want not to suck your PR should be made nofollow except for the links of lind rel="publisher" or rel="author" etc.

    Hey Beardo

I always add no follow after my links in my websites and blog posts because i have found that this increases my PR.

Also, its a great habit to have because it ensures that Google web crawlers don't get confused about your content that you want to optimize.

    Hope this is helpful!

You are both wrong. The linkjuice that gets distributed among the links on a page goes through ALL of the links. The only difference with nofollow is that it does not pass it on to the page being linked to. Instead it drops off into a black hole basically.

You are not conserving anything by adding nofollow.

Nofollow is for paid ads or sites you are telling Google you do not trust. So you are going to tell Google you do not trust Facebook, Twitter, etc?

They don't practically take your link juice. But rather you would get a positive point with the inclusion of the buttons. The stage of promotion would go better with the inclusion of these buttons.

How can you possibly boost or lower your PR of a page by
      putting nofollow, or not?

Complete misunderstanding of PR, nofollow, and the like.

I don't get what planet you people live on. Still have no idea
what nofollow is for!!!!!!!!! Still have no clue as to what raises
      or lowers PR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's helpful alright. It's helpful that it's telling people that you have no clue as to what you
      are doing.

Like I said in another thread. So many fire, so little time. No wonder you people fail.

Nobody should even be asking such a question who calls themselves a real web"master."
