Question regarding Google Places and Serps

Hey guys, hopefully someone can give me some insight on this.

I have a client we are ranking very will locally here in Cody Wyoming, however, if we got him into Google Places, would that increase his chances at ranking better locally as well for the keyword we are working on?

    Places helps as long as a place listing (now called Google My Business) is being shown in the keyword search results.

    Since he's a local business I would submit him to Google My Business regardless of if it helps or not. Then you can find a way to get his current customers to review his business on Google. That will help him out a lot and generate some great testimonials to show off.
