SEO for small website / blog question

So how is the SEO affected if one went a bit broader with the niche of their choosing? For example instead of just a site based around music / music related product reviews, what about adding art, opinions, photo's etc.. What happens to the SEO opposed to only revolving the site/blog around one thing and a few keywords? Thanks.

    Hey,

From my experience, the PR of a couple of my websites has actually gone down the more things that I added that weren't relevant.

When everything is relevant and focused around one main niche on your site, it is much easier for Google web crawlers to understand your site, and to know when to show it in the search engines. Anything extra added that is not relevant usually results in confusion.

I would say that you can add more things to your site, but try not to get way off topic.

    Hope this helps out!

    -Josh

In my opinion it can have a negative effect short term and a positive effect long term.

If you're a music site and you just post about music then there's no reason you couldn't do music software/hardware reviews, lyrics, top 10's and more.

As long as your posting more content and keeping on topic then I would highly recommend it.

Also you've got to remember that it's better to have more profit models on your site, if you're getting loads of traffic from google/other search engines and you're not earning any cash because you're only in one field of your niche then it takes the point out of the traffic. (if it's a money site)

So take a risk and add more content and go after a few related keywords. (Just my opinion)

Jolly2step adding more things is not bad idea but these things must be based on website niche. You can add art, opinions, photo's etc but these all must be related with music that is your niche. Adding more things may help you to increase traffic and ranking as well.

As long as the specific pages are well optimized to the keywords or key phrase there should be no negative effects to the SEO of the website.
