Can you get back lost rankings?

For example say a keyword went from page one to page 8 and you disavowed bad backlinks, deleting a fair amount of them and look for quality links and to add content to your site.

Can you recover from lost rankings and possible penguin penalty?

Anyone see evidence that disavowing links helps?

Also it is possible that a lack of (quality) backlinks could be what a site needs along with content after losing rankings?

Thanks

Of course you can regain your rankings.

Imo disavowing isnt really that important you just need to focus on building high pr links, socials and writing content.

I think first you should try and identify what happened for your rankings to drop. What types of things were you doing leading up to it?

As above, though, I think your time will be better spent finding high quality link sources rather than trying to disavow links.

A lot of things regularly change in SEO, but the value of high quality links is constant.

I disavow many back link because it is not related to my category, also look like spammy.
I observe that no major changes occur in my ranking, but it is good exercise because SE penalise those site who have duplicate content and bad back links, that have no meaning.
It will help in future for better SERP.

And you wonder why you aren't getting your rankings back ? You most likely deleted the links that ranked you in the first place. What is with people thinking disavow tool is going to make them rank #1, google must be pleased now that everyone is disavow like idiots instead of building backlinks. +1 for the webspam team.

Anyway the solution is to build more high quality backlinks to make up for the ones you lost/deleted and fix any on-site optimization issues. Did you even receive any penalty or unnatural links notice ?

Well a naturally penalty seems likely since the rankings dropped when it did. We had a lot of web dirctory links so it made sense to get rid of them. Now we are looking into getting quality links. I hope that can help do the trick. We never got a penalty notice but one of the keywords we used to rank high for went from page 1 to page 8 as well as others.

I agree with Joanne; it is important to monitor your efforts. If changes has been made and you are trying some new strategies, observe. In that way, you will easily be able to figure out what went wrong.
