If you include the word "torrents" in a domain name, does Google think it's spam?

Hello.

I have a question.

I bought the domain name "timothytorrents.com" because Timothy Torrents is my name. I'v been publishing articles on the website for awhile now...

But I'm wondering if the word "torrents" in the domain name, and content of the website, makes Google think my website is advertising torrents (peer to peer download system, mainly used for illegal files)?

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I haven't seen a significant drop in rankings but I noticed that Facebook thinks that my website has malicious content, which it doesn't. This is quite irritating because I can't share links on Facebook anymore.

Do you think it would be a good idea to transition to a new domain, with a new name?

Right now i don't see a problem with it. I see a lot of torrent sites pop up when i perform certain search queries.

The problem is...... anything can change overnight. It may be a problem tomorrow, but not very likely in my opinion.

If you want to be 100% safe and have peace of mind, maybe you should change the name or use only your first name + something else.

Okay, thanks for the comment. I'll think about switching to a different name. Meanwhile, I have to work on making Facebook remove the spam flag on my website... ugh

Get a new and brand-able domain name for now, but do not let your current domain expire.
Things may change as time flies. No one call tell.

Btw, you got great content there ah. Are you a solo-flight writer or you have a team?

Amazing name, Tim. Though it could be misleading. Makes me think, :Where's the download button? As Deekay stated, your content is superb. Good read indeed.

Wow, thanks guys. I was starting to get discouraged because I thought no-one was interested in my website anymore, so thanks for the little boost of confidence. I'm solo writer, originally I wanted to put together a team, but it's too much of a hassle to train writers.

So I guess I'll stick with the name? Seems easier than re-doing everything...

But still your name gives a misleading impression. Torrents. Maybe if you make a banner headline on homepage saying you are not a torrent site? lolz.

I like your article about the "doors" thingie--- that I can relate.

Hmmm, what about a disclaimer? Like, at the bottom of the website, or sidebar...

I'm not expert in this, and I suppose few of us really are. I'd expect Google to be way better than that. They've got the tech so they're probably going to take a peek at the site content while at it. "Torrent" is a perfectly normal word after all.

However, a lot of users are behind filters that are not nearly that advanced. It's possible that some of those corporate firewalls or parental control blockers don't allow your site. Can't say if that's a problem or not.

Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

I think it will not matter. Search Engine will try to check your content for SERP, not domain name. Check "Torrentfreak.com", how it rank well in Google.
