Relative Newbie - Can't Afford PBN's

I'm relatively new to online marketing - I have made an amazon associates site a couple of years ago with a little success, but the methods for gaining links I used back then (pyramid, tiered etc) aren't as effective, if at all now.

Having been doing some reading, it seems as though people making Amazon niche products sites successfully are generally putting their success down to high quality/authority links from PBN's - the likes of RankHero etc.
The problem is, at the moment I cannot afford the memberships to the networks, but I still need high quality links.

My question is - how do I go about getting these high quality links without having to pay $$$'s a month?

I would be grateful for any help and tips

Depends... if you have the time and energy just make a kickass website and reach out... people will most likely love to link to quality articles and content in their niche. That's my experience anyway.

That's lucky for you, Lissylou: it will save your sites from being heavily penalized or even de-indexed when Google identifies you as a user of private blog networks!

The latest editions of many established SEO books are mentioning private blog networks as the number one, top type of backlink to avoid building. And there are good and valid reasons for that. Google really is committed to rooting out and penalizing the users of this kind of stuff which is designed specifically to exploit and manipulate their ranking algorithms. (As all the users of a certain well-known blog-commenting service, among others, recently found out to their cost).

People sometimes like to pretend that SEO is "all a big mystery" and that it isn't predictable what Google will end up doing, and whom they'll penalize and why, but the reality can be very different: private blog networks are exactly the kind of thing they say openly and repeatedly that they dislike, and they explain why, too. (Just don't expect to hear that from the people selling them - they'd like the potential customer-pool not to know, just as happened with "spinning services" and "article submission services" and so much other ridiculous nonsense.)

Whatever your reasons, well done for keeing away from it!

    Do you?

You must want a business that's dependent on Google, rather than one that isn't?

You are confusing public networks with private networks. Private, well-built networks will never be discovered. If you found one, you would never know it.

But that of course is not what the OP is looking for.

Very sorry if I have posted this in the wrong section - possibly a mod could move it?

Thank you for your reply Alexa, glad I read it before I have made any decisions. In this case then - what would you advise for a basic link building plan? Or could you point me in the direction to find such information?

Guest posting is the best way to generate high quality links without paying a cent. You can also donate money to sites accepting donations that would give you a free link after receipt of the donation.

Lastly, you can identify authority blogs in your niche that might be interested in your posts and get them to link to your posts. This is called link outreach which essentially means asking for a link.

I agree!! Guest posting still works great, you just need to make sure the content you send to the sites are 100% unique content.

Google are not penalizing guest blogging, it's the guest blogging people are doing which has crap spun useless content. If you guest post with good content and not copied, you will see your ranking rise.

Remember, these guest posts you create will earn page authority over a time period. If you guest blog on a few high authority domains which have great PR, you will find the guest posts earning page authority, which is just as good as blog networks.

It takes time but at the end of the day, your sites wont be penalized and you will find higher rankings and you will soon see your domain authority rise ever so slowly.

Building your empire slowly and playing it safe is better than fighting a losing battle with Google over blog networks and getting penalized sites.

Id rather build a site to last forever than waste my own hard earned money for a site to last a few months or just a year.
