Use your keyword you want to rank for only once or twice on the highest PR page you have

Use branded keywords and generics as much as you like. Add in naked urls to the mix too

Stay away from social networks, actually use them if you like but don't think they are going to help you rank anything.

I said high PR pages because links from a high PR site is not going to do much like the one from the page linking to you. Don't rely on PR alone as a metric, you should check majesticseo CF/TF to get an idea of if the site really is high PR (PR can be faked). This is assuming you buy backlinks.

I wish i could tell you an easy way to grab high quality links but there is none or else everyone would be doing it. Look into PBNs

Write your keyword and make it READABLE! Try placing your keyword in the content NATURALLY and if ONLY the place is there!

Yes, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to get good backlinks but what confuses me more is that you hear that having your keyword in your backlink profile can now appear to be unnatural...

I would avoid using your exact match anchor text..

So if your key word is .... Red Dog Collars.

I would use the anchor text Dog Collars over Red Dog Collars. (Just an Example)

That's the sort of thing that I have heard. What I can't seem to get though is a definitive percentage of exact match, phrase match and actual brand term or website URL that should make up the whole profile.

I wonder if that's because there isn't a definitive...

There is no fixed percentage to follow. Just be sure to minimize the amount of exact match anchor texts in your link profile.

OK, that kinda makes sense Thanks. Its just that I seen some thing from a group called Linksmanagement.com that were quoting percentages and I wanted to know if what they were saying was right.

Anyone quoting percentages is an idiot. Google is not that stupid.

It has more to do with the quality of your links than anything.

On top of that... let's say one of these morons says you should keep your keyword anchor text at 20%. Okay...

If your site had 100 links, is it possible or even likely that 20 of those sites would use your keyword anchor text? Yes. Absolutely. That could happen when you are talking about smaller numbers.

If your site had 50,000 links, is it likely that 10,000 sites would use the anchor text of the exact keyword you are trying to rank? Hell no.

Mike, That's an excellent point. I know sites will have a varied number of links and depending on variables like the way the industry refers to things in that niche will probably have a bearing on any percentage. I also thought that Google will not give you a formula because we could just manipulate it! So that made me wonder why they were making that claim. I've never heard of them before but they are on the domain I mentioned earlier providing people with this formula...
