Does redirecting expired domains really work for SEO?

What should I really look at when buying these domains? Age, pr, etc

This is an old but smart way to push start a new or existing domain. There is no clear answer to your question unfortunately. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. If you plan to invest in old domains with PR and redirect them to a single domain, I would advice you to create content instead and distribute it to many other quality websites - this perfectly works.

You should definitely check if the domain still keep it's PR, if the links are way permanent against links just placed to give PR to the domain for quick sale. You can also check the domain in archive.org to see it's history and if it was penalized before. Age is also important, but not so much as it used to be.

Every case is different, every webmaster/site owner has a different idea about it.People have made a lot of money off doing things, but I, personally wouldn't.

Yep it works. Redirects are an interesting thing. They can do alot more then just pass links.

You should look for pr and link profile.

Be aware that Google is seriously looking at links and redirects that pass Page Rank. Part of the Penguin update. Right now they are saying that they don't approve of passing PR, but not sure how strictly they are enforcing this.

It works well and it is also fine with Matt Cutts. Just don't go crazy with them,

You might want to watch some videos by Matt about 301 redirects:

    Hope this helps

Other people say redirecting aged domains work, but I've wasted over $150 on two expired domains I bought and redirected to two different niche sites at different times of the year and they did nothing for the sites.

The domains I redirected were irrelevant to the sites they were redirected to, so that could be the reason why they didn't work. Feel free to carry out your own tests and if you'd like to do so, use relevant aged domains.

As regards what to look for, the aged domains I typically look for have a PR of 2 or more, DA of 20 or more, PA of 30 or more, no drops, are indexed in Google, and haven't been used for any spammy activity (check archive.org).

You can do that but I would seriously advocate you against that if you want long-term results.

Redirecting links does work, but it is too much time and money verses what you get. You still have to search for expired relative domains and then purchasing them and try to make it work.

You will be better off spending your time and money in other areas.
