I want to buy the following domain: pickahairstyle.com

The website would be about hair, hairstyles, hair "do's"/ tutorials, etc.

Is this a good domain name? How much do you think is this domain worth?

P.S. I do NOT care about the SEO value related to the domain, I only want to know your opinion as for how the domain sounds for branding etc.

It's worth the cost of registration ($10) at most If you like the domain name considering it doesn't have any existing backlinks.

Hi yukon, thanks for your reply. I agree, the domain "strength" is 0.

Though acrually, I am not looking at the link profile or authority of the domain. What I want feedback about is the NAME itself.

Is it a good domain name to establish an authoritative site around it? Or does it sound cheap?

In my point of view, if you are taking your domain name related to the targeted keyword then it will help your domain name for driving much traffic.
As well as while picking extension such as .com, .net or .org also you have to give a special care for that.
Yes, it is a good domain name and if "pickahairstyle" is your keyword then it is an excellent domain name.

      The blind leading the blind.

Are you people for real? I just wonder what you would have told
the creators of the warrior forum. I mean how could warriorforum.com
rank for internet marketing? Have no clue.

No wonder you people even ask this question, get nonsense answers, and actually
      encourage it! You like failing.

The Pied Piper leading rats down a sewer hole.

Two reasons why anyone would actually "like" that reply:

      1) A ring of friends, liking each other, spamming, etc.

      2) You figure they are your competition, so slyly encourage them to fail.

Instead of some bogus domain question, why not start working hard on the site?

      What a concept!

Firstly, I am not an automated machine creating bogus threads, this was an actual question as silly as it might sound. Secondly, I am already writing content, I did not publish anything yet though. I would like to find a domain name which I would be happy to work with. I am still trying to figure out what I am doing and I know I am probably lost in the Lalaland of fantasy thinking I am going on the right direction... Not true, I do not feel confident on what I am doing and that is the problem.

BTW I already registered this domain before posting this, I do have money to spend, the time and the enthusiasm needed. I did my research, I know the basics. What I lack is advice, a good direction.

I do not know what to do, I need a mentor really badly.

Yes it is a good domain name if you plan to use it for hair products only. It is worth its registration fee (10$) if no backlinks are there. If you mean selling the domain name then its pretty average and i doubt you can get much out of it.

Yes, pickahairstyle.com is a good domain name. If you haven't made up your mind, you can use Google AdWords Keyword Planner to know which words are most used when people are searching for hairstyles. You can create other domain names from the suggested keywords.

FYI I wouldn't recommend posting any actual domain names that you're thinking about buying. Unfortunately the are some people who will buy the domain name right from under you. Just for future reference.

In the past EMD (Exact Match Domains) were helpful in ranking a website (for that particular keyword). The general consensus now is the EMDs don't give you an edge in rankings (you'll hear arguments for and against, but I think *in general* people think it doesn't help). Additionally, you said getting a domain with some previous authority/power/backlinks isn't of great importance.

With that in mind, why not go with something that's catchy and interesting and easy to remember? It could have "hair" or "hair style" in the name, but it doesn't have to. HollywoodHair.com came to mind. It's taken, and I'n no stylist or marketing wizard, so maybe that's not a great name. But the point is, something catchy. Something that, if the site takes off, you won't be sitting around wishing you had come up with a better name.

I was not looking for an EMD when buying the domain, I am looking for a catchy domain, a general one. Surprisingly, this is the best I could come up with... every good idea was taken.

I am not happy with it, so I think I should better look for something better.

I think you should keep looking. That domain name would probably seem like an EMD to google, so getting ranked might be difficult.

I do not care about the ranking factor of the domain, I highly doubt that what you said would even be an important ranking factor in a matter of time. I just want something catchy, a solid domain with which I can feel confident about. I want to build an authoritative website around the hairstyle niche.

At first I was quite convinced with this one, but I am now starting to have my doubts...

I think it's a good domain name! Good in the sense, people will remember it if you can provide enough first visit value to them.

    my 2 cents

Sort of agree with this. Also : it might be clickable, too, in the sense that getting a good ranking is worthless if people skim over it.

      Just my 2c.

Like Yukon said..if you will sleep better at night go with the domain. I personally like 1 or 2 word domains for branding, doesn't matter much tbh though. Depends on where you want to go with this.

Keywords in domain names don't have much SEO value anymore. Branding is the way to go nowadays. That being said, "PickAHairstyle.com" is pretty catchy for a branded site in my opinion. I wouldn't do it just for the keyword seo value though if that's all you have in mind.

EMD's still rank like a big dog on Yahoo and Bing, and they account for around 30% of searches. 30% is a good number.

Google doesn't show EMD's the big time love they used to, but unlike what a lot of misinformed people think, Google doesn't penalize them either.

They're still a little easier to rank than a non keyword domain name.

And for what it's worth... I think PickaHairStyle.com is a pretty cool sounding name

It is a long domain name that can make any of your visitors confused, it also can make you lose visitors to similar domain names, I don't recommend it.

I quite like the domain name.

I was going to do a "hair related site" a while back but never got round to it.

I still own the domain name I was going to use for it - curl.tv

You can lease it from me if you like?

I really like that domain name, btw. Thinking videos of people using hair curler devices (not sure what they're called)! You could also have anticurl.tv, too, with straighteners.

      Anyway. Back in reality...

This is a good domain name. Just keep in mind that the Domain name is more of a magnet name for people to want to click on your site. Its exactly like a regular store name. Keep it short and center it on what the website is about. Don't worry about it being keyword specific or helping SEO at all. Its only for attractiveness of your customers.
