Which Link Building Methods are Currently Working?

PBNs are still very effective at the moment. How new is your site? Seems like Google is putting new sites in a sort of sandbox where they are kind of stuck for a period of time. This isn't always the case as it could depend on the niche and search volume of the keywords you are targeting. Sites seem to start ranking well after a month or two, sometimes longer.

Anyone else noticing this as well?

If your on-site seo optimization is okay then check your PBNs. Sure they are good enough sites for PBNs and not just some duds

It's natural for your site to get stuck without any movement no matter the quantity or quality of links you build. I have a site behaving the same way. All you can do now is wait until Google decides it is worthy of a first page ranking.

We mainly focus on content marketing and social media marketing. I think that is the safest way to get decent rankings today on Google search.

Remember with your PBN's the quality of the articles where your link are, is very important. You want your links in quality articles that give value to the reader.

Write authentic content and add value to your readers that's enough. BTW you can use pyramid link building.

Yeah, "sandbox" is the word of the day it seems.
Just read through Google's 2014 Quality Reviewer Guidelines and it also appears that these stress a new acronym "E-A-T" (Expertise - Authority - Trustworthiness): and I suspect their algo's are also gearing up for this by not only quantifying exact keyword frequencies but also related word (and n-gram) frequencies.

A few other concepts/culprits being tossed around the forums related to this sandboxing include:

- link velocity: how quickly links are being built to a new site
- quality of content (see my notes above)
- aged domains (nothing new there: use domains that already have some authority and you'll rank faster than using brand new ones).
- anchor text balancing (also not a new concept - don't use exact match keywords in all your linkbacks).

... moving forward, seems the name of the game is to create content of actual value: Google wants to direct its users to compelling/interesting search results: so create sites that deliver what Google wants. You'll ultimately get better and longer lasting results for doing so. (or so it would reason).

The quality of your PBNs is also very important. Is the content used on the pbn unique or spun garbage? Also, how new are the sites?

There are many steps to building a worthy PBN, if you miss one of them you don't have a PBN.
