Market Samurai SEO Competition

I haven't been around the forum for the past year, and recently I reignited my interest in pursuing an online income. Since I used Market Samurai for most of the KW/SEO competition research I have two questions:
1. Is Market Samurai still a reliable tool that can help you find niches and assess competitions?
2. In the SEO competition module which are the factors that I should be concerned about?

If competition websites for a particular keyword has high PR, but low backlink numbers and bad on-page optimization (mostly no's) is it worth it to take on the challenge?

Before any of you say anything, I did go over to Market Samurai's website and watched the tutorial videos they have on the competition module. The only thing they do there is compare 3 different matrices (all boxes checked) and saying which is better than the other. They didn't actually give any guidelines towards what would be an easy competition to beat.

Tell me your experiences and what you usually aim for. I'm a newbie, who happens to hate the 'get the backlink' process, so go easy on me

    1. To be honest, it never really was useful for assessing competition.

    2. Really none of the data it provides is useful.

Crap like number of backlinks means nothing. It's just a number that tells you nothing about the quality of the backlinks. That SEOC (or whatever they call it) is complete crap. Makes no difference how many listings there are in the index for a keyword.

Whatever keywords you are looking at, you have 3 competitors. The top 3 sites. That's it. You need to analyze those 3, but nothing in MS is going to help you do that.

You would have just as much luck guessing or flipping a coin as you would using MS.

Are you $&@&$&@ kidding me ?

Dosen't matter what tool you use, you need to understand what you are looking for.

Trust flow , domain age, Backlinks to the domain, backlinks to the page, anchor text, most powerfull links to the page, etc....

All this information is crucial and you can get it with one or two click using market samurai, you don't even need a majestic seo subscription, because all the data of market samurai is extracted from majestic seo.

Learn how to use the tool before giving such feedback.

Lol... backlinks, trust flow, and all that other nonsense tells you nothing about how difficult the page is to outrank for a specific keyword.

I know how to use the tool. It is one of the most overhyped pieces of crap in IM.

Traffic Travis is another tool you can use too.
I also use ahrefs and webceo, they give pretty good breakdowns on what types of links, page rank, and social comparisons. I like ahrefs in particular. All 3 are free to use.

PS: Use a couple of tools along with Market Samurai and always compare and contrast your results.

Yeah all Market Samurai does is pull Majestic's backlink data and CF/TF into one screen view. If they showed PA/DA and aHref's link data all in one interface, that would a decent tool.
