Pigeon has affected some of the sites and it mainly is meant for sites with US english. Google has not yet revealed what you need to do for recovering from it once its hits you. So we are still waiting.

We have always used the directories for our clients. This is a great update but in all honesty we haven't seen much of a difference. The great thing is that you can have multiple first page listings on local search which all lead back the to client in one way or another.

yes we are seeing changes but nothing major, some of our SEO clients dropped 2 or 3 places and they seem to be staying for now. We are now working on new strategies to bring them back up. 1 of mine was page 1 number 1 for seo Gloucester it's now number 3..

I have been reading a lot on pigeon update and noticed that business name, phone no., address should be same if you are listing your website on local directories. Google will give you more weight age if it all matches.

That has nothing to do with this update. It's been that way for a couple of years now.

There isn't much information about this update yet so there aren't any tips to follow to recover from or avoid getting hit by this update.

As it says, Google Pigeon update is the latest major update affecting local search. Here are some good tips shared on link-assistant.com that covers what's happening and what to do ... a good read I think.

MozCast says the SERPs have been pretty constant lately. No one really knows what Pigeon is doing.

Possibly not! It's not a minor update, at least this is not what the industry leader like Search Engine Land is claiming. In fact, as they say, this is a major update, but affecting exclusively local search. You may like to read

You do not have impact on your site, maybe either you don't have any issues or you are not considering local search, same is true with your friends' sites too. I am not sure. And this is not penalty based algo update, rather it aims at making core changes in local search ranking algo (source). So, one may not experience a direct SERP drop similar to other past updates.

Only if it didn't affect you.

I do a lot of local stuff for folks, and industry wide it's considered big.

Exactly! This is what I wanted to point out. Unless you are affected, you cannot possibly have the idea how big (and bad) it could be for local search marketing. Industry leaders cannot be wrong. Well, yes, so far it's not yet known if this update affected other countries or languages, but for US English, the answer is 'YES'. (source1, source2, source3)

I have observed closely Penguin effect on a site that was an eCommerce website. Their strategies was only to write articles and submit to the article websites. The serious thing was that they were using only few 50-60 same websites to submit all articles. For a few years, they generate backlinks from the same websites and when Penguin update came, their website was penalized badly due to C-Class Issues generating a huge amount of backlinks from the same websites because they had 1000s of backlinks from a single website. Always keep in mind it is best strategy to have 1000s backlinks from different 1000 website instead of 1000 backlinks from the same website that was why their website dropped from the first page of the google searches. Nowadays, they are trying on paid traffic like Adwards, etc.

Well, haven't seen any fluctuation over my ranking after the Pigeon update. We are still over the same position where we previously are but What I can see is change in the traffic usually before the update we don't use to get that much traffic from the google but now I have seen slight increase over the traffic we are getting. I can say not good at all but nor too bad which I can scream about aloud.

This is targeted for Local SERP. if you notice, the pack of 7 has disappeared for quite a lot of keywords.
