When vetting a site for possible collaboration or contribution to the site is there a standard page rank/ domain authority you look at to make sure it's safe to be apart of the sites, etc.? Also are yahoo answers types of sites safe to link from according to Google's guidelines (assuming you are contributing)?

Thanks

If I want to create a backlink from any site I would only check two things. First is its Alexa Rank ( To know if the site is still alive i.e., getting traffic) and second would be to look at PR (To know if they have got back links). Otherwise If I like someones content I comment there. And talking about yahoo answers its good to have some back links from there but don't spend all your backlinks efforts there. As it doesn't pass pagerank juice so few from there are good. But do keep in mind you will only get a live backlink when you get to the level 2.

Yahoo answers link might be safe. Because they provide only URL as anchor text and also it is NOFOLLOW link. However any kind of link building if done in huge quantity will be considered by google as SPAM and penalized. You should avoid over usage of any particular method. Use this method along with other kind of link building to make it effective.

There is nothing wrong with Yahoo answers backlinks and no, I don't look for any level of domain authority before contributing to a site so far as it contains high quality content relevant to my own site.

You will benefit more by looking for sites publishing high quality and relevant content and sites whose articles receive lots of comments from their readers.

Most of the time they are sites with pretty good domain authority so you get high domain authority links in the process without even aiming for them.

I would generally avoid the Yahoo answer clone sites, these are usually low quality and not beneficial.

For building links I would avoid overly spammy sites, and not so much the "metrics" of the sites links. Keep in mind a blog today that doesn't have much credibility could be HUGE in future with a lot of link equity so don't discount links today because they don't look good.

Remember though that spammy sites will always be spammy so that advice doesn't go for that.

Alexa, PR, DA etc not always says the quality of website. There are many other factor you should remember when creating back-link. Check the content quality, every website start with low link metrics and may become good one in future.
