hi I m new to SEO, I m doing keyword research.
I have done the job with google keyword planner but the keywords I got are either semantically good with no traffic or with a good traffic but not related.
how can I find the right one? each time I put other keywords in google planner it spits out pretty much the same results.
do you know any good tutorial / book that explains it step by step?

thanks

You should start with kind of content that you would like to write. Afterwards, you can check with Keyword Planner on how people usually use the words for the content that you decide to write.

What you should do is doing a google search for your website with the desired keyword, and look how many results google gives. The less results, the less competition! Next is to look at the bottom of the page for "Searches related to your keyword". This gives you an idea from where to start.

      Hey my friend,

I read the title of this post and felt compelled to reply. First off, since early 2014, Google is giving preference for pages that cover an entire topic, rather than a single keyword. So when I first read this, I wanted to make sure you're not going after the pre-2014 conception of ranking single sniper pages for single keywords. It simply isn't effective anymore.

What you should be doing is targeting the main page for a topic. Then creating subpages and silos based on target keywords. Getting more and more precise, the lower you go in the subpage hierarchy.

Feel free to contact me and I'll help you out. diggitymarketing at gmail

      Hope this helps,

You need to learn how to perform long tail keyword research. You can use Google's related keywords feature or ubersuggest to get additional relevant keywords that can give you other keyword suggestions when you input them into the tool

Also, choose the option that says "show only closely related keywords" or something similar and you'll get results different from the results you've been getting.

To start, a good technique is thinking of all the ways people could possibly refer to your product or service. Then, you research these keywords (using a keyword selector tool). This will reveal which keywords have the most potential for ranking in the search engines.

Start by trying to find an easy to medium competition keyword that you can rank for, then as you start ranking for that keyword try and move onto harder keywords.

I wouldn't suggest targeting hard keywords to start or you won't get any traffic and will be discouraged.
