If I'm interested in a site and the page rank looks good, lots of links, lot of referring domains but the history of a site says that a year or so ago it's redirected, is the site really going to pass PR or am I being mislead ??

Need some input.

Thanks

Many scammers are faking page rank by using redirects (301 or 302 redirect) to point their domains to other sites with high PR. Check carefully before you decide to buy this domain.

Don't let the pagerank deceive you. Take a look at the backlinks of the site and look for spammy links. Check the pagerank of the site it was redirected to just so you'll know if it's a PR 5 site, in which case the pagerank would be fake.

Yeah the backlinks to alot of his sites are spammy or what I consider spammy (comments) from crap sites. And his whole list of sites have only been up for 2014 or there is a large gap since they've been up. Now I know that a PR 4 or 5 site should have lots of good links and should have been online for a few years (I would think)

What concerns me is when I'm looking at a domain for links and I'm looking at the wayback machine and it tells me domain (x) PR 5 has a 301 or 302 redirect from a year or two before and I check the redirect and domain (y) has a PR of 5 should I stay away even if it looks good in every other respect. Links are good, lots of referring domains, Moz, Majestic, say it looks good.

Does the 301 or 302 redirect always mean the site is stealing its PR ??

      Thanks

Most probably. That's how you fake a PR.

You shouldn't be looking at the page rank of the website, but the back links and the source of the back links, even if the page rank isn't fake, page rank can decrease or drop.

It is done by many scammers now. There is nothing we can do about this. Once we see a high pr website we are definitely going to open it. If it is redirected to another scam url then we will be redirected to that page. We can only do is to leave that page immediately. There should be some plugin or anything else should be created to stop this time wasting tricks.
