How can I check my backlinks?

Why is it that I am unable to find my backlinks, either on yahoo or google (using link:http://website.com) or on openlinkprofiler.org ?

It is a new website founded about 3 weeks ago, and I must have built at least 30-40 links over the past weeks from directories, guest posts, website profiles, forums, etc. all manually. When checking these pages manually in google and yahoo, they are all indexed.

Google almost never shows much link data. You will need to use a third party tool, but none of them are 100% accurate too.

If you built them, and you see that they exist, I wouldn't worry about whether or not they show up in Google or any other tool.

Yup, I know google doesn't show them but in the past, when I built my last website (around 2010) yahoo used to show 90% of my backlinks and I never had this problem.

the best source if your Google Webmaster Tools (GWT). Check in external links in GWT. To see the quality of your link, u can check at Ahrefs, and OpenSiteExplorer.

right, there are other services like backlinkwatch, but they won't tell you if the backlink qualifies

      NO, just no.

Where does stuff like this come from? GWT is a horrible place for backlink data.

I've seen sites that show less than 5% of their backlinks in GWT.

Start with ahrefs to check you links.

There are so many 3rd party websites which you can use to check your websites backlinks and other data. I like to use MajesticSEO. They are free to check a few times daily. Shows good report on backlinks and from where and when they were made.

As has been mentioned many times above, you are never going to get an accurate picture of how many links there are to your site. Yahoo used to have a GREAT tool until they pulled it. I've heard people say that Google webmasters is a double edged sword, as to see what kinds of links you have you need to register and verify your site. I'd just use whatever free tool you are using currently and focus on building GOOD links and GOOD content instead of just the number of links.

The best tool for checking backlinks is only Google Webmaster tool but it wont give the exact details of that page. If you go with other tools to check backlinks it would show some links but it wont be much accurate so in my opinion Google Webmaster is the best.

As others have said Backlink watch isn't bad - I'm currently running a test with them to see how accurate their data is.

Obviously Webmaster Tools is an option as well.

Be careful because unless you have some independent means of knowing the accuraccy of some of these services well... I have heard stories I won't repeat here..

Sometimes the best way is to go and check them out manually - when you know they're there save them to a notepad file and then start driving some backlinks to those links. You can take that a far as you like and build up some nice tiered structures..

or you could get somebody else to do it for you..

I created and run the only truly automatic website backlinking system (3 years and still going strong!) We provide HIGH PR links (ALL done manually by my own staff) every month on complete autopilot (for the Client). These are now posted from UNIQUE IP addresses. When you're sick of hours creating backlinks AND STILL getting nowhere consider this hands free service. (WF Coupon code JH1960) Website | WF Thread | Support Desk

There are many tools available for checking a website back links and ranking position, most people use GWT, but you can type in Google "Back Links Checker" and you will find many websites and tools that provide this.

I've used backlinkwatcher once, but it's not 100% accurate. If it's your site and it's connected to G Webmaster, you'll get a full list of sites linking to yours in the dashboard.
