Worried about removing text and loosing PR

Ok so my site Stourbridge Family Portrait Photography | Wedding Photography | West Midlands - Kinver | by Daniel James needs a small re-vamp I think as i'm adding new sections and it's getting fairly bogged down with text which is making it hard for people to navigate

Looking at sites like this Baby photography, child & pregnancy photography: Baby, Child, Family and Maternity Photography Specialist, London. I want to trim down the text and maybe just have one or two bigger images to grab visitors to the site, possibly on a random image script so it is different each time.

I don't want to use flash but by trimming down the images and text i'm worried this will affect my position in google and drop me back down the ranks?

any advice please?

thanks

You don't need to cut down the amount of text on your page. I would keep it something similar to what you already have, where your images are above the fold then more detailed text is down below. Build the home page in two sections. The first section at the top would be your new design, then you could put any "old" text that was in the page down below in another section. Most people will only scroll all the way down if they don't find what they're looking for above the fold.

my big competition is Family Portrait Photography | Venture Portraits | Photo Studios Throughout the UK now they have very very little content to look at BUT because of the 4300+ backlinks they have i take it that's why google loves them? saying this i'd much prefer a site like theirs as its dead simple and easy to navigate which i think mine somehow lacks, need easier access to my contact details and prices

Yes probably but it is also important with what Anchor keywords you are backlinked with. If your main keywords are anchored then it is the maximum potential of that link to go alongwith the PR of that page.

Don't strip your text but try to re-write a bit to improve your keyword(s) prominance/density/proximity for your main keyword(s). Also, I would suggest don't bold your whole text but rather your keywords and proper structuring using H tags.
