How important is a targeted keyworded domain?

Hey,

I always see targeted keyword domains for example "xxx shoes uk" in the top 3 but I think it looks unprofessional. How much harder is it to rank original domains i.e branded in a low-medium targeted niche? Bear in mind this is my first time trying internet marketing. Should I buy a keyworded domain and route traffic to my original domain? Hmm.

Sorry, but I can't agree. Your website would not become popular as what if people DON'T know it?!? I would go with EMD of course especially if the keyword is good and the domain is available!

If you have a professional team, enough money and aim high, then use your brand name as the domain name would be the better choice. However, for many small online business, it would be better to use keywords as the domain name coze it really helps you get higher ranks in SERPs, at least it works for me.

Thanks guys. Just goes to show that I can get to the top of Google with some effort and learning my top competitor (#1 for keywords) uses an EMD with very little back links. Had a look around for domains but can't seem to find one that's fitting. I don't mind though, I can wait =) better to wait 6 months and learn all the tricks than dive into it, right? If anyone wants to help me with anything just PM.

I have 5 fresh new articles for my niche for my unaged site. How would you guys recommend I post them once a week or? It's an eCommerce site with a blog.

Thanks for the help Kiddo. I have money not all the money in the world I'm a software engineer but I'd rather not 'cheat' for my first site because I'm trying to learn right now. If I circumvent processes I won't be as good in this field after I become knowledgeable. Does that make sense?

Hmm 5 articles/blogs won't do you much if you really want to get better results and increase crawl rate I suggest you post at least 3 times a week. Make sure the articles are well written.

It was so important 2 years ago. I remember I ranked 1st without any backlinks. But it isn't now. Don't try to wast your money on them.

It's as easy as ranking a domain containing your keyword. EMDs and partial match domains used to enjoy preferential treatment in but Google has evened the playing ground since the EMD update was rolled out.

You choose brand name for domain. It is always better than exact match domain.

When starting a new website, one of the first and most important decisions you have to make is choosing a domain name. That choice will impact the website’s success in nearly every area, included search engine optimization (SEO) and social media marketing (SMM). If you will have your keyword in your domain then you can easily dominate on google by your keywords.

Depends on the marketing strategy. If you're trying to build a long-term brand, than I would recommend a memorable domain that captures the essence of your business, keywords be damned.

I think if you still don't have enough reputation, it's better if you use EMD, escpecially in the beginning of your business, so Google can better detect your site based on your domain name. If your brand already famous, however, it's better if you pick a domain based on brand name, because Google will now detect your brand instead of your keywords. Both are good choices, just using different approach to reach their goal.

So much bad advice here. Stop reading the forums and do your own research. How many exact match domains do you see in the top 10. Ok, now how many brands do you see in top 10. Problem solved. Google LOVES brands, and HATES thin EMD sites. Seriously people, are any of you actually doing SEO?

Well, this question depends on your budget and resources really. Google doesn't favor Exact Match Domain as before, but it doesn't harm to have one isn't it? Apart from google, think about conversion and trust it can get to your customers. I would be in doubt if I search for pizza but find something like www.ahesoatehte.com in the first place of search.

EMD's are a thing of the past. You want a short and sharp brand name that is memorable.

EMD - Think of it as a better branding than your own brand.

    Why?

you only got a good 3 seconds to tell your visitor what your site is about. And what better way to do that than this?

Why not use your brand name?

If it's a real solid business and if you have a fat wallet to spend to market your brand, then use it. Otherwise, why waste it when you can go with EMD and keep your money.

SmartPassiveincome, Live Your Legend and even John Chow - these are not brands when they started. the brand started after a year or so.

Well as I have pointed, there is an advantage using EDM. It's no longer about the algorithms.

Target keyword domain used to be important and helped ranked high but as google updates it became less and less important. Just focus more on quality relevant content now as its the most important thing to rank high.
