Ranking a site but...

I have done all of the onpage SEO optimization, it's good. I have given it good title names etc.

Signed up to webmaser tools, submitted it to search engines etc, added analytics.

Still not showing in the top 50.

Any ideas? Do I need to build backlinks? It has backlinks already, does this mean they are bad ones? What do I do?

How old is the site? Sometimes it just takes time for your work to start paying off.

    Of course (((:

I don`t know what keywords you targetting but for mid/high competition you need very strong backlinks, tiers works very well these days, build your 1st tier on some web 2.0 (high DA/PR) and then boost them with GSA SER with 2nd and 3rd tier, you should see results within 30 days at max.

How do I go about building my links on the first tier of Web 2.0 sites?

The website is about a bed and breakfast hotel, do I need to find sites to submit to which are about bed and breakfast, or do I just focus on the strong sites no matter what they, as long as I can submit to the directory?

Why do you want to fool Google with "fake" web 2.0 sites?
Be real, generate REAL content that users want to naturally share and then start outreaching bloggers, webmasters, do some broken link building etc. There are endless opportunities to rank a site without grey tactics.

Link building in these days isn't easy as before couple of years. After Penguin algorithm roll out, we can't get immediate/quick results for the link building efforts. Do quality link building consistently and wait patiently for the results. It may take 3 months or 6 months or even 1 year depending upon the keywords you have chosen.

Dude of course you need links. Sorry to burst your bubble but I've NEVER done serious on page optimization and have never submitted my site to Google and have tons of sites that rank.

Where are you reading your SEO tips? I'd suggest finding a new source because that's all old stuff.

Of course your onpage needs to be "decent" but dialing in your image titles is pointless and no adding your keywords via h3 tags isn't gonna get you to page one.

Solid high quality links will though.

On-page is not enough to get you in top 50 unless you are going for very low competition keywords. Backlinks are a must in today's web ecosystem, whether they are legit natural obtained based on the quality of your content, or they are artificially created based on your seo skills, does not matter that much. But either way, you need some backlinks.

Still not showing in the top 50. It means your website was not good enough to rank high. Keep building content and backlinks

I recommend you putting a video on that page. Even if you did all of the On Page stuff. I would recommend you put up a video for that page. Whatever your topic is just put up a video and optimize the description. You can do all sorts of back links but when you use a video embedded into your post it definitely helps especially if you optimize your description.

If you do multiple videos then link all of them to that page. Just speaking from experience this is one of the easiest ways to get rankings and give your page a boost quicker.

After you add your video then resubmit your page to the Social Media sites. This will help out a lot.

IN the video complete some form of annotation that gives a pretty strong call to action.

Hopefully that helps you!! (Maybe think about giving it some Local SEO added to it, you can always go back and change later but this will help too)

    Good Luck!!

You need to build back links for your website and be patient and you need to build back links the right way, so you need to learn how to do it correctly if you don't. Ranking does not come usually in 2 weeks, it may take months or a year, you need to have a plan and be patient and work for the long term.

There are a lot of criteria for rank better in SERPs.

Monthly searches and competition on keywords.
On Page optimization like Title Tag, URL Structure, Content quality etc.
Back link quality which you have created.
    Website visibility in SERPs.

And there are a lot of guidelines which you have to followed.
