Outsourcing SEO Effectively

The purpose of me reaching out to the community is to ensure I don't get screwed while outsourcing my seo needs. Everyone should know three things:

a.) Although I have already selected an seo company to work with, I would be willing to jump ship, if someone can provide me valid and substantiated reasons for doing so

b.) I have chosen to outsource because my job in the Navy requires me to constantly be on the move and I don't have time to cover all the painstaking nooks and crannies required to rank a website.

c.) My website is brand new and it contains duplicate content.

With that being said, I want to know some good tactics for making sure the seo company i'm in business with (Indus Net Technologies), is doing a good job, in terms of ranking my site in a reasonable time-frame.

I was given an SEO plan and a 6-7 month time-frame before at least 4-5 out of the 10 keywords they will be marketing, will appear in the top 20 of Google. Is this deliverable a reasonable time estimate? Is there a quicker way to achieve results?

    Your website has duplicate content?

How can they even promise you anything if you have that?

Duplicate content will not rank well.

They informed me that I had the option of growing the site by adding my own keyword optimized content. They said I would not get 'Burned' by having duplicate content, it will just not feature in the search engines above the original. Does this make sense to you?

What makes sense is that if you have duplicate content then your website will suffer from penalty whether you are able to notice or not.

Your asking for advise and my advise is NO for duplicate content.

You should definitely fix your duplicate content before you build any backlinks, it will be a kind of handbrake.

Duplicate content will make it more difficult to rank your site. However, if the DUP content is just filler content that you aren't trying to rank you should be fine. If it is content you are trying to get ranked, I would have it rewritten.

Their plan seems solid, although a lot will come down to the types of links they build for you. There seems to be no mention of that in their proposal. Almost everything listed had to do with onsite optimization and Google places listings. If they are requiring a long term commitment, I would ask for some sort of guarantee. 6 months is a lot of time to commit to an SEO firm if they don't deliver on results.
