Only good content and no backlinks worked for me

Hi,

I have been building content rich website for last 5 months and the results I see are amazing. The SERP's for content has increased. I have not done any backlinking in past 5 months.

Just publishing blog posts at regular intervals has given boost in SERP. Before 5 months, the blog posts which didn't have any SERP's are now ranking at lower part of first page or second page of google search. For the record, I have 670 blog posts as of now.

Now if I do supplement my efforts with backlinking, I would be flying. Thinking of doing manual blog comment and forum posts for backlinks (only top blogs and forums).

Really wanted to share with bloggers here.

I've seen results like this too. I built out a review site that is full of content heavy pages (1,000 - 2,000 word per page) and saw amazing results, ranking first page for my primary keyword without any backlinks. What I noticed after a while is that people start to link to you organically as they actually want to be associated with your site! It truly does all start with quality content!

Making a comments on not spammed (moderated) relative blogs is a very good idea but I will be carefull with forum sites especially if you thinking about putting your anchor text in the signature cos after some period of time on lets say specific forum sites you will get a lot of posts with the same anchor text what is not good and can lead to penalization.

I think building top quality backlinks to your website based on blog platforms could be a good idea as well.

I can't even follow that. Content marketing? Search engine marketing?

The only "marketing" you can do online, is either backlinks or advertise.

I still can't follow that line though. "Content marketing plays important role in
Search engine marketing." What the heck is that?

People completely misunderstand what a backlink is, what it does, how it's used,
      where they are, etc.

Nobody is going to tell me that they rank brand new orphan pages.
      No way.

And if you are publishing content without any links to it, man your site structure
      sucks with a capital S.

    Define 'Results.'

We can all get general, low converting traffic with just content. It's the highly engaged traffic that people are really interested in - and that happens to be very competitive.

But to be fair, let's see a screenshot of your traffic numbers...

@Metis, you are right. When the page is high in SERP, other websites want to link to it. I myself link to top sites for reference on a given topic.
@npoint, I am also staying away from mass signature backlinks. I think if someone has to get signature links then don't post more than 2-3 times on a given forum. And it is important to post on topics which we think are gonna rank high in SERP's
@godoveryou, WMT gives only 3 months of past data in web console and i have been lazy in adding GA. Here is screenshot from WMT. Believe me earlier to that 3 months period, the graph looked much worse.

At this point, why risk all your hard work?

If you are going to be posting on forums to get a backlink, make sure it's the best forum possible for your niche. And, I would prefer one backlink within a post, rather than a signature link. Those are very hard to get on a forum but just one on the right forum could do a lot of good for your search engine ranking.

I have achieved these results with mediocre content in a very competitive market BUT a lot of backlinks from my network, I think this debunks your theory

@patadeperro, it means that your backlinks are not spammy. if they are spammy then its only a matter of time before google catches them and I completely agree with @JohnnyPlan

No they are relevant backlinks, but that is not the point, I post the image and the comment above to make you question your own assumption but instead you are showing me a round logic, you said that only good content is helping you to rank and get traffic and I show an image with more traffic than yours accepting that my content is mediocre at best, I am going this to show you how backlinks work great even if your content is bad.

How does this "debunk" his theory? His theory is not that backlinking doesn't work, just that focusing on content rather than building links still does work.

@extremejava If your content is as good as the stats show, and it is of a decent quality, then I would advise you to look into doing some guest posting. Not the load of crap guest posting you find for sale around here, but the legitimate kind where you contact the big players in your niche and offer them free content that is so good they cannot refuse.

He says he has not build any backlinks, that does not mean there are no backlinks on his urls, and he says his search engine traffic has increased, that is pure logic because Google have to show a result no matter what the search is, but that does not mean he is ranking for compatitive keywords or that his traffic is targeted, in order to achieve the previous two criterias you need backlinks.

If you are ranking with content only without much link, you are lucky - may be it is your domain. I have many experience of this. However, for competitive terms you need links - lots of link - my friend.

I've been doing SEO over the past years in my free time.

Over those few years, I have found that there are

2 Crucial SEO Signals You Should Never Ignore

    Onpage SEO
    Offpage SEO

I know, right? Not much has changed at all.

These two factors will always trump everything else you can do in order to get the most out of your organic traffic.

Content is probably the biggest criteria for SEO (in the first place, this is what visitors are really after). So the higher the relevance score of the content and the richer source of focus keywords (bearing in mind the competition rate for the keyword) will land you on Google page one, even with less back links.

Content really is the king, and it is what makes a website an authority in the niche. Especially if the site is full of high quality content and presents a SILO structure (which can also be a great plus!).

Congratulations on your results, having backlinks will indeed boost your SEO score, so you've only got a few things to do to stick to the first page of Google.

I've had success with blogging using only one SEO plugin: Yoast, social signals and backlinks.
