When Google updates "links"

Hey,

I garnered some dofollow backlinks last week from providing good material on established sites; however, a week later, I still can't see those links either in GWT or by searching links:domain.

Any idea how long it takes for Google to update this?

Thanks!

The link search operator rarely shows links.

According to the link operator, CNN only has 2,940 links.

GWT can take a few months to update. And some links never show in there.

Gotcha. That doesn't mean they don't have any impact on ranking or authority/trust tho, right? I they're dofollow and linking pages are indexed.

As long as the links have been cached, Google knows about them.

Meaning that if the page is cached = links are cached, correct?

If it is cached showing the links, yes. If it was last cached last week and you added the links yesterday, then no.

Or even if they cached it again, but did not update the entire page (they do that sometimes), then no.

If your link shows in the cache, then yes, Google is aware of the link.

Don't count on webmaster tools for links, they never display all of the links and often an outdated list that isn't helpful.

You will want to use tools like Ahrefs to check links, they have the most updated database and will show your recent links.

The new back links will usually be crawled instantly, but it may take time to show. Also, as mentioned GWT won't display all back links.

When Google Crawled the links. Then Google will take time to update the links. ahrefs tool is showing new crawled backlinks.
