Authorship is being completely removed from Google SERPs. What Do you think ?

Google first started implementing Authorship around the time as the launch of Google+.

It’s unfortunate to see Authorship information going away.

The decision was made to drop Authorship information because the information was not found to be overly useful to searchers, and at times has even detracted from the search results.

What are your thoughts on this? Will Google still use authorship as a measure of authority in the future or are they killing the entire concept all together?

Well it seems they have been testing this without too much success. So i guess they will drop it all toghether as the other numerous things they introduced over the years.

The problem is that just about anybody could set this up, so it's not really something that measures the quality of the content. If they reward anybody just for setting up authorship then lower quality posts could come to the top in the search results easily, even though the article was poorly written.

      No, it is gone completely.

I would imagine Google+ is not far behind.

    Google keeps changing rules.
There are now a lot of things Google considers, and it is very easy to overlook Authorship.

Well... It's normal because I see that most GOOD websites started even sell spaces on their websites, so even new sites could get a boost...

Well, oh well... we jumped on board for this when they implemented it and thought it was a good idea... I thought one of the original ideas was to help eliminate web spam if it was linked to the author and not specifically about ranking.

If you want ranking with an author, still create a profile for authors and guest authors on your blog. Those do rank, especially when someone searches for the person's name.

I really liked seeing all the Google authorship information in search results and associating a particular article/blog with a face. Maybe others didn't find the information so useful but for me it was one of the best things they had done in the past few years.
