I want to establish how many people are searching for a phrase on the web. What is the best free tool to get an accurate figure for a set phrase. I want to be able to break down by country ?

Not that good at keyword research so any help with this would be great.

I use a tool called Jaaxy Keyword Research, it's decent.

The first 30 searches are free and then a $19/month subscription is required. I have the paid version, works fine for me, I think it's worth it.

Hi Peter did you get my private message? If you didn't I was basically saying to check out Google Adwords.

    Hope this helps

    Good Luck

Be suspicious of non-Google tools. Who knows where they got their info. You just might end up chasing after IMAGINARY TRAFFIC.

If they keyword research is for ranking purposes, I highly recommend Long Tail Pro.

Not because it has some ninja keyword spying software. In fact, it uses Google Planner for the keywords results...

They reason why it is so useful is because it does all the competitive analysis for you within their software

For example. It will show you the PR, the number of backlinks, domain age, etc etc etc .

I also recommend Long Tail Pro. They have a free trial then a one off payment (which you can find a discount for in the WSO section).

Fantastic tool for finding golden keyword that Google Keyword Planner would never spit out.

I got thrown by your post title asking what's the best tool for this year vs. the questions in your thread so I think you're getting answers for some of each.

For a FREE tool when you just want to look up the volume for one keyword just go to the Google Keyword Planner. Do this by creating an account at Google Adwords (which is free) and choosing Tools/Keyword Planner from the initial log in screen. This will walk you through how to use the tool: How to Use the Keyword Planner.

For a breakdown by country, once you're in the Google Keyword Planner and have looked up your keyword, click the drop down for Search Volume Trends above the bar graph and select Breakdown by Location and you'll see the search volume and percent by country for the top volume countries:

If you make sure you're on the Keyword Ideas tab under the graph and then click Add to Plan next to the keyword you can then Review Estimates and get to a more detailed breakdown by country but it will show as daily impressions instead of search volume.

There is no other trusted keyword research tool than google keyword planner.
I know there are also good alternative tool other than google keyword planner but why use it if you can use all the tools you need in just one platform.

I'm using Market Samurai. It has a lot of good functions. I always check top 10 ranking by MS before building new site.

    Have you tried KeywordRevealer ?
It`s free, require registration, you can search by country, it shows you how competetive is keyphrase ,it`s based on several important factors, it`s really good tool if we are talking about free ones. But if you could spare something on paid one, I could advice you a MarketSamurai, it`s one time payment soft, used by a lot of IMers since years, this product is one the market since long time. Read some reviews of it. I am using them in daily basis, it requires Google account cos it`s puling some part of the data from GoogleKeywordsTool but not only. It`s really good ,gives you many factors you could judge the competition of keyphrase and also can suggest low competition ones based on it`s own measure of it and it really works (:
