I have a site that may of been hit by penguin, it never really ranked but is a 4 or 5 year old domain, it had a lot of backlinks, but I just check aherfs site and it now only shows 25 and all from PR news sites, it shows all the other blog comment and other links dropped off.

So if this site was hit by penguin is it safe to now register and use? It is not indexed at all and has been expired for about 6 months or more.

It is a really good name and would love to reuse it because of the age... But don't want to waste money if the penalty is still there...

Please let me know your thoughts...

Regards,
Dennis

    Hi Dennis,

It's not good ideas to take a risk just because good name and age. It has been expired for about 6 months doesn't mean it 's fresh now for Google.
I recommend to get a new one and start fresh.

But like I said the links have all been deleted except for PR sites. And only 22 of them so it seems that if it is an ago penalty it should be ok now?

If it was hit and has no back links, then get a new domain as the old one does not seem worth it.

I think you should buy new domain rather than old one.

Only because of the age, search engine does not give credits to the website! If you really liked the domain name, then go with the most similar one. Since SEO is never constant its not a good idea to rely on the very old domain!

The age is a factor and will be quicker to get indexed and maybe rankings will come quicker as I heard there is a delay in ranking new sites now?
