Site Structure - Cornerstone Content

Ok so I am ripping my hair out!

I have a site that 1000% more SEO friendly, better structured, better looking, SEO friendly images, more informative content, more backlinks, etc. etc. Than my competitiors. Still they rank on page one on Google with their shitty SEO cathastrophical pages.

  • I have scanned their code on every single page.
  • I have scanned their backlinks.
  • I have read their copy.
  • I have checked their meta, and tagging.

Their pages makes NO sense SEO wise at all. It's like a child have built them. Still they rank and I don't!

I am using a WordPress platform.
I have every page SEO'ed according to Yoast with a "good" score.
I use only my own copy and text.
I use only my own photos. (They take other peoples photos (even mine sometimes))

I have a cornerstone content page that links to important categories in my site.

What do I do wrong?

Our sites are the equivalent of a niche that sell one product all over the world. Let's say we all sell Chihuahua dogs and we live in Mexico.. We only sell Chihuahuas and nothing else... We export Chihuahua dogs all over the world. Keywords to rank for would be.. Chihuahua for sale, Mexican dogs for sale, Mini dogs for sale.. Etc..

I have had sites for much more attractive keywords on number one of Google. I have been doing this since year 2000 I am not a beginner in SEO but I don't seem to be able to figure this one out.

The only common denominator between them all is that the first page of their website is a "landing page" where you have to click about 3 times before you get to the content that you are looking for.. IE the "dogs" for sale..
And their domains are older...

My page goes straight to the blog listings of the "dogs for sale" where the visitor have every question answered right in front of him.

Is it that simple? Is the landing page the key?

I am just afraid of changing to a landing page because I have a keen set of regular users that know the structure of the site and love it.

What do I do?

A blogging network.. I doubt it as judging from their sites they have no clue about anything web related. Perhaps they have hired someone yes, but wouldn't that person go into their content and have a look at the structure? Or do they know something I don't ?

The problem may lie within the Domain age. Sometimes websites with good SEO but new domain takes time to rank. I have seen Websites with NO content and product descriptions that are ranking number 1 on Google for every Keyword and have a domain age of about 5 Years and a similar website(competitor) with a Good optimization and SERPs rankings below them with Good SEO. But have a domain just 6 months to 1 year of age. You will rank well with time just keep up the Good work.

Their domains range between 10-8 years old. Mine is 4 years old...

See I told you. This might be one of the key points. But you have to look out for your landing page as well. Don't be afraid to change it or make a better/newer look to it. If your website is structured well then people won't find it difficult to buy or engage with your webpages/websites.

And you said you have given everything in front of the visitors. This may also be a matter of concern. The reason is, if visitors get to know everything from the one page only they don't go to other pages of your website, which means your bounce rate will increase as there is no engagement on other pages. Work on this.

Also you are saying your domain is just 4 years old then how can you work from the year 2000? For more detailed information PM your website link.

    I was thinking about sitemaps..
Do you index categories and tags? I guess you want to index some categories but perhaps not all? How do you do it?

I took a quick look at your website, and what I found is that your website is over optimized, title is long and spammy, keywords are spammed, header and footer content are spammy and repeated on every page.

You need to work again on optimizing your website or hire someone who knows what he is doing.

Thank you. That is interesting as when you use the seo optimiser from yoast they don't set the seo as good until you have spammed the content.. It's very strange..

SEO optimizer is a good tool, but it's just a tool!

No, I am not trying to sell you anything. Tools are useful but you can not be fully dependent on their results.

I already gave my opinion/knowledge on a previous post. So I am not selling this either.

Anyway, I wish the best of luck with your website.

You need better backlinks plain and simple. Google keeps saying content is king, which is true to a degree, but content alone will not get you ranked. Especially if your competitors have strong links coming in. Most likely a hidden PBN that your competitor is using.

In addition to the domain age the PR of each side counts when placed vis-a-vis for ranking a page. If your competitors domain PR is higher than that of yours, his site or page will rank better even if it has poor content and is poorly optimized.
