How Does Google And Domain Name Rankings Work?

Hey,

could some explain how this works?

For e.g. Lets say I want to start a business in dentistry in London.

I go out and buy Dentistsinlondon.com.

I'm confused to how the domain would be beneficial when searching 'Dentists in London' in google.

How does that work?

    The domain name isn't very beneficial to SEO at all. Google places very little emphasis on it as a ranking factor.

    I'm sure lots will tell you differently though. They'll tell you that the domain the-best-dentist-in-london.com will give you a huge boost in the SERPs. Don't be too quick to believe them.

    The reason I ask is because I've seen some interesting methods on selling domains to businesses.

    For e.g you buy the domain Lawyersinlondon.com and then go and find 40-50 Law businesses within the London area and contact them all offering them the domain based on the fact it can rank high on google and is a premium domain.

    I like the concept, but I don't understand how it can rank high on google which I'm assuming is the main reason why someone would buy a domain like that.

    I disagree with you, keyword domain are still effective, yes they are not as effective as they used to be, but they are still effective.

    Ofcourse the domain name alone will get you no where, you still need to build a good website with original and useful information, optimize the website and do marketing camping.
