Hello Im trying to decide whether to purchase a brandable domain name or a EMD domain name. The brandable domain name would cost me close to nothing since noone has purchased it yet. But the Exact match domain would cost me a few hundred. My question this, lets say I have an ecommerce website that sells a certain product. If my EMD describes exactly what I am selling, would it be more benificial in page rank than a brandable domain name. And if so, is it going to be easy to get this EMD domain name to googles first page if the competition for those keywords is high. Do I get to the top of page one for having those keywords as my domain name (with a .COM extension ofcourse).?

An EMD isn't going to rank a page.

well my question is this. I have a EMD and good keyword use and content and solid categories within my store. How much is an EMD going to help? This niche is high competition by the way

No you're over thinking a much more simple thing. In essence, take the name that you will be happy with in 10yrs.

I don't think amazon asked the council: do we go with amazon or do we go with booksforsale.com

Don't purchase EMD domain. Create a brand and register that domain for a registration fee. Another even better choice is to find an expired domain which already might have links profile and have big DA, PA & PR. EMD no longer has any advantage over non-emd domain.

Try to build a brand which will be known by people and simple to remember.

Go for brand domain. They are a better option.
