I am doing some competitor research on link building. I know it is bets to have niche related links, but one of my competitors has a few pr5-pr6 links. Those are the actual pages not the home. I would like to get . They are blog comments with a hyper link. They are not related at all to the niche...one is from hairpin DOT com

I mean one is on a gay forum.

So my questions is, should I also link to those if I can? or would it be better to let them go sense they are not niche related?

No gay jokes please ...

Also what about a UK website blog? With a PR of 5?

Just trying to figure out this high PR back link thing..

Thanks

"I know it is bets to have niche related links" Can you explain what you mean?

Not that good backlinks are usually created by users and not the site owner. What a site owner does, is to create content that people can link to. Therefore anyone from any medium may link to content irrespective of whether there is any relevance.

If you intend to build backlinks, your best bet is to link to sites with relevance. If not you may want to link to any government websites, online newspapers, money sites.

There may come a time when the company you researched, will lose the credit from such backlinks. However, in some circumstances, sites with a high PR, may not matter much.

When you try to compete with your opponent:

    1) Try to grab the same quality of links they have already have plus improve your quality where they lack in.

    2) Make sure that the website you are getting links from is not made only to only to give external links to hundreds of website hence making it a platform for selling links. In the next PR update, you will not see any PR for such website.

    3) Try to focus on DA, quality of content of domain. (it should not be spun or copied anywhere throughout).

    4) Plan to maintain your own PBN network with good quality content and links (3 sites a month). Within a 6 month, you will happy enough to be independent when it comes your off-page SEO.

I think it's harmful for your site. Any kind of porn site or porn forum should be avoided.

It is not porn, just a site about gays.

I guess even though it is helping my competitor, I am sure these site will loose rank when an update comes. There are a lot of link in the posts. I kind of knew I should not do it, but wanted to ask for more opinions.

      Thanks

Don't add the same back links that your competitors have if they are unrelated, your competitors might be ranking better now, but they might get penalized for the unrelated back links they have. Take what is good from your competitors and leave what isn't.

Well if your niche site is related to gays, by all means, otherwise stay out of it.Links from unrelated sites are not going to help you in the long run. One way to get high PR links is through YouTube. Another way is by Yahoo Answers.
