I have read a couple places that guest blogging is against Google's guidelines and can get you penalized .. I would really like some clear answers on this ... also if there are conditions that would get you penalized , but still make it possible for people to guest blog , please let me know . I would like to know what can get you penalized .

1 . I know that bad quality links will def get you penalized .
2. I am following the white hat techniques and I post on forums and sometimes leaving comments related to the topic of the discussion and leave the link of my site which is helpful and related to the discussions on the forums.

3. I write articles related to my site making sure that I leave a link there using an anchor text linking back to my site , once again ... articles related to my site niche ... I also post to directories under the section related to my niche .

3. I do not over build backlinks daily , maybe 3 or 4 daily , building them slowly with quality.

I wanna know about guest-blogging though , even posting on forums contributing to discussions , with links .. will that get someone penalized ?

Guest posting can't get you penalized if you do it right, not like a robot or something. It's compatible with white hat rules. But if you have some doubts about that you can read an article which clearly shows you that there is nothing to worry about, until you know how to do it

Dont think of guest posting = PBN + highly over using anchors.

If done properly, which is to actually look for good sites with good traffic, you win. Get 100 "guest posts" in 10 days from random domains? Sounds fishy, but done right, it probably wont get you penalised.

Throwing your articles on a bunch of low quality article directories isn't guest posting, and if you are using that content AFTER the articles have been posted on quality guest posting sites I wouldn't recommend that either.

Guest posts do work, but you can't be blatantly obvious about it. Gotta make it seem natural and a good fit. Most of the guest posting Google's cracked down on isn't what I'd call guest blogging anyways.

A guest post is perfectly acceptable thing in google's eyes, they love it. It helps them provide great content to their users just like everything else. The problem is, google doesn't like people who guest blog for solely the sake of links to your honey pot. People start going all WALMART/ASDA on the prices and create cheap ass networks for guest posting and it becomes a problem.

I never write guest posts or blog, but i'm sure i'd offer some great content for some ones blog or case studies etc - Why would google not want me to offer that to their users?

      No, as long as

      - You guests post are on quality sites
      - Related to your niche
      - You don't use massive/spamming guest posting tactics...

Also, it's better to place your link inside the posts, (alongside with other links to 3rd party sites), not on your author's bio
