How do you do keyword research, what tools are there? Anything you recommend in particular? Why? What parameters should I be looking for to ensure my site can rank high?

Thanks!

I use Market Samurai. It is a paid tool.
The other tool I use is Traffic Travis by Mark Ling. There is a free version.
    And Google Keyword Planner.

Ranking your site requires more than just Keyword optimisation. You got to make sure that there is high quality content on your sites. You have traffic. Relevant and high quality backlinks. Many factors.

Take one step at a time. Start with providing high quality content on your site.

Keyword research broadly falls into two components:

    1. Finding a keyword with good search volume and good potential (often linked to a high CPC)
    2. SEO competition, ie: how difficult it is to rank for your particular keyword/s

Google Keyword Planner is a good place to start for finding keywords. Depending on your interests, I've found using the Amazon Movers a good source if you are promoting physical products.

As for competition, you can use tools like ahrefs, sep spyglass etc.

I love Google keyword planner. Don't totally depend on this tool, the best keyword tool is human brain. use your brain to get keywords first, then start using keyword planner for suggestions

Keyword planner with some metrics and back link checking with Moz, majestic and ahrefs. You can use software and tools to narrow things down, but it's still best to take a deeper look manually at the back link profiles of competitors.

It depends upon you that you are searching advance or basic keyword. Google Adwards is the good tool for selecting a keyword with its high volume and density.

I always start with Keyword Planner. From there you need to do your own competition and volume checks. Most of the paid tools are are good but you can't beat the cost of Keyword Planner and Traffic Travis (free edition)

Hello! I'm on SEO for about 2 years now and i can say there is no really reliable keyword research tool.

What i mean by that is to analyze the competition manually.

    to do it:

First pick your keyword using Keyword Planner ( Google it if you dont know what is it )

Then enter your keyword at google and analyze the top ten result.

does that top 10 has your keyword in their title that you are targeting?
does that top 10 has your keyword in their URL that you are targeting?
does that top 10 has your keyword in their Description that you are targeting?

If no then the 70% of your keyword research is done.

    Next: analyze their backlinks.

Can you build more backlinks on them?
Or their backlinks is high quality?
Can you provide good article than them using your chosen keyword?

too many factor you know but thats the important factor
