Is high rank fluctuations normal?

I use CuteRank to check the ranks of my keywords.
I notice often that rankings tend to fluctuate A LOT.

For example, lets call one of the brands I sell "ABCXXX"
Today, the rank for "ABCXXX shop" has dropped 88 ranks (from 12 to "Not in 100"), while rank for "shop ABCXXX clothing" has increased 1 rank, to number 7 in google.

Is it normal to fall this far down and then bounce up, or have I been hit by something in google?

These fluctuations are called "Google Dance", but I'm not sure that losing 88 positions is related to this phenomenon. Use only white hat SEO (avoid any SEO automation or black hat) and if your website will not win several positions in next weeks... then it could be hit by an update of Google's algorithms...

Yeah, we're using just white hat methods. I just find it strange that it stays up for a longer-tail version of the same keyword, but completely jumps off for the shorter version.

We did (regretfully) purchase a fiverr link gig about 1,5 years ago before knowing anything about SEO. Hopefully that won't come around and bite us in the ass.
