Affiliate Links Hurt Your SEO?

Matt cutts said that affiliate links in the WordPress post content give a negative impact for SEO.

Therefore, adding nofollow attribute to affiliate links is the best way to prevent this negative impact.

I use gocodes plugin, it makes affiliate links look pretty. We can add nofollow attribute to all affiliate links by checking "Nofollow Gocodes" in settings > Gocodes.

Do you have any idea about it?

Affiliate links don't affect SEO, as long as they're used modestly. Based on my personal experience.

When you provide quality content, and genuine comments it doesn't affect it especially if the link is relevant to the discussion. Of course if its other people posting them to your blog, I think its smart for you to moderate your comments anyways to keep the spammers out. You only want quality comments of real people who actually have something valuable to talk about. This will help your site keep its visitors and contribute with their own valuable comment which will also help you rank higher since people like your site in the eyes of Google.

^WTF does this have to do with anything?

Anyways - on to the real question...

Nofollow anything related to advertising. Anything at all.

Use nofollow or redirect the links to target sites from specific pages on your site and you're good to go...

Simple SEO strategy... Don't ever dofollow affiliate links or risk harming your site rankings

You can use a plugin like pretty link which can turn long affiliate links into small and good looking links, and this way no need to worry about seo also.

The pretty links plugin does NOT cloak your Aff links. Google bot can still follow it.

Yes, based on my experience you will get penalized if you use any of the big affiliate programs: Amazon, clickbank and commission junction. Sometimes the penalty happens right away, sometimes it takes up to 2 months. Then you get your penalty.

Google has publicly stated many times they see affiliate sites as spammy sites.

Having said that, if you have a 20 page site and only 5 of those pages have aff links on it you might be ok. But if most of your pages have aff links your going to get burned.

This is the only plugin that I tested that will actually hide your aff links:

I heard about it too, but I am not sure it is about do follow or nofollow , it is probably about affiliate links generally. Google doesn`t like weak content sites with a lot of affiliate links.

Affiliate links is one of the factors which lowering your chances for getting long term results in Google, they hates it and it is not something new. If more you have them on your website the worse and of course if they are dofollow you additionaly decrease the strenght of your wbsite cos each outoing dofollow backlink is another factor which infulence on ranks.

Its always a wise thing to cloak your affiliate links , doesn't matter what matt cutts or anyone else says. Affiliate links are usually very long or ugly so cloaking also makes them looks prettier , people usually hesitate to click on ugly looking suspicious links.

Sure. That's why amazon gets no business. All of their internal linking, and outside
      linking, is just ugly.

SEO by pretty links. Man what's next?

Of course nobody would ever click on a link from yahoo's front page, or

LOL! Nobody ever clicks on a link in google search, right? That friggin url
      is just hideous!

I would imagine the average person does not even look, nor care, what the friggin
      url is.

Nofollow has nothing to do with anything here.

Either affiliate links make you money or they don't. If they do, screw
what anyone says. If they don't, then stop doing stupid affiliates. Period.

I think what hurts your seo are duplicate content if you copy and paste directly from salespage, which many do; and link juice, if you link to many different pages.

From what I understand I don't think Google likes affiliate links, they're thought is why don't you go directly to the site if you want to buy it. They have always had a hatred for affiliate links, although they did try to CPA with adwords a few years back which didn't work out too well.

They consider Affiliate sites, as sites that don't bring real value to uses, in my opinion.

Seems to work fine on my site. Then again I only use one or two affiliate links per post.
