Ranking competition between pages on site?

We sell a lot of different brands on our site, and have developed landing pages for each brand. We want to rank high for the brand names as keywords.
We also have a blog on our site, with news and articles. If I write a blogpost about brand "XXXXX", could this blogpost end up "competing" with the landing page for "XXXXX" for rank?
If so, is there a way to let google know that the landing page is the main page for keyword XXXXX?

Just make sure that your blog post is geared towards having the reader click on a link to your landing page. It doesn't have to be a sales pitch, just gain their trust and lead them toward your other page. Yes, they will be competing but that also means that if you do well with your SEO, you will have 2 pages rank and double your chances of getting customers.

The way you throttle the 2nd ranking page out of two same domain internal pages is only have the keyword in one internal link anchor-text on the 2nd page pointing at the first page. Don't have the keyword anywhere else on the 2nd page.

I see what you're saying. It's hard to write a blog post about a certain brand without mentioning it more than once though..
