Hey guys,

Google doesn't like it when you are buying links right? So when you have an affiliate program for your website do the links those affiliates use to promote your product still improve your ranking or does google see them as paid links?

I want to start an affiliate program for one of my products so that's why I am asking

When your affiliates link to your site, link juice is transferred to your site as long as the links don't contain the "nofollow" attribute. Therefore, yes, links from your affiliates will increase your rankings, depending on how the links are setup.

For links that retain the affiliate tag/id after being clicked on, I don't think any link juice will be passed as they won't get indexed and Google won't find them. On the other hand, affiliate links that redirect to the homepage of your site or an internal page after they are clicked could transfer link juice to your site.

I'm not 100% sure of this though.

Nofollow has nothing to do with rankings, and google never said
to not buy links. They themselves sell millions.

Some affiliate links signal that your page might be crap because you
have crap links like that. Nofollow is meaningless. But calling
crappy pages crappy is also in the eye of the beholder. Google
does not just up and zap a site because of affiliates. If you want
em, and they work, more power to you.

Google does not hate all affiliates. It's not rocket science to tell the difference.
