Dawn Lafreeda began working at a Denny's in California at 16, making her way from hostess to waitress.

In 1984, when she was 23, Lafreeda was able to merge all her skills when she had the opportunity to purchase a Denny's restaurant in the tiny mining town of Globe, Ariz. She jumped at the chance.

    WOW! A LOT of denny's have, and thus the chain itself has, a BAD reputation. I would be scared to do that on that large a scale. Remember Sambos? I used to like it, as I recall. There didn't seem to be racism, and I never thought about the decor. Apparently ALL closed except the first! They now speak of this on their HOMEPAGE!

    Denny's had similar complaints and accusations, as well as food related concerns.

      We have a Denny's in town and it's always busy with cars in the lot so must do OK. I think I've only been there once in ten years.

      This was interesting in the article:

      Over the last 10 or 15 years, we've faced a lot of employee issues that cause us to work harder. The way the younger generation views life and the way they work is very different than when I was in their age group. We have to recruit new employees all the time.

        Glad she had some guts to go ahead with her plans and succeed. Unfortunately, I pass on stopping at a Denny's.
