Facebook gets rid of targeting by employer

Hi all,

I'm a freelance content marketer aimed at tech start ups. And I'm wondering...

With Facebook stopping targeting by employer as an option, what's the best way to reach your audience when doing B2B marketing?

My thinking is maybe I should find a list of companies email addresses using tools like hunter.io and make a custom audiences list.

My questions for you more experienced guys are:

1) Is this a good way to target companies for B2B or is there a better one?

2) Am I allowed to do this in the Faceboook ads T's & C's (being as these are email addresses I've just sourced and haven't opted in), or is there a risk of being banned?

Any advice would be much appreciated as always,

Thanks,

Well linkedin can be a good source but if all else fail you can try places scout. Though you'll need to invest a little on it.

Thanks for this. Problem I have is I'm still employed so worried that if I use linkedin ads I'd have to set up a personal profile then my employer might see it (which is fine from a legal p.o.v and I'm working in my own time, but I just don't want the two worlds to mix to avoid awkwardness)

Is it possible to use linkedin ads without a public profile? I'd set up a company one if that's possible.

You might try asking this in the Social Media part of this forum. You will probably get more answers there.

Which gives you very cold leads, potential for lots of spam complaints, and quite poor conversion. That's not smart marketing - it's wasted time and effort.

Wouldn't it be better to study the FB policies and terms yourself rather than asking a random crowd of mostly newbies who will give you their opinions but very, very few of them have actually read and know what FB allows. Go to the source when you need to know the truth.

    Here's my suggestion:
    • Do your market research to identify your perfect customer
    • Draw boundaries around your identified audience to exclude others
    • Your research will show you where that audience can be found online
    • Put your offer, or sign-up, or request (whatever you're after) in front of that audience and make responding to you very easy, intuitive and compelling
    • Capture email contact information and build a targeted list of prospects
    • Provide value, great information, and solutions to problems for your subscribers
    • Keep growing your list as this is absolutely the very best audience of prospects you'll ever find - market to your list
Yes, what I'm suggesting takes time and effort. It doesn't happen over night. Isn't that the way it is with all smart marketing?

If you do these things, you can market to your list without fear of wasting time and effort on people that have shown no interest in what you offer - which seems to be your current plan.

    The very best to you,

    Steve
