Don't Be A Twitter Spammer!

If you use your Twitter account to try and make sales then you should already know that just Tweeting sales pitches will quickly get you 'unfollowed'.

You need to Tweet some other interesting stuff too that preferably isn't related to IM.

If you struggle to think of things you can Tweet - here's something you can try...

Sign up for 'Google Alerts' and set your topic as 'Breaking News'. This means that Google will email you FRESH items considered newsworthy and you can pluck anything that you find interesting from it and then Tweet it.

Everybody loves a bit of gossip and your followers won't consider you a sales-maniac!

Cheers, Ray

I do the same with some niche accounts I have. If your quick enough onto some important breaking news then your tweet can go super viral really fast!

I've avoided twitter all these years but now have an upstart that must use it.
So I have been wondering what in the heck do you tweet about?!

    Thanks for the tip!

      Hi ken
use retweet feature , if you have something that can solve someone else problem then search it on twitter and reply to them

I got this idea from epic traffic formula launch but since its close now you can use this alternative tool its called "tweet attack" for faster and automated retweet and dont worry about getting banned this software does not use API

    Taking notes...
I believe tweeting is going to have to be outsourced to a little birdie.

If I hire someone to tweet for me does that make them a twit?

    Hi Ray,

Thanks for the tip. Another tip to avoid being labelled as a spammer is to occasionally retweet other people's tweets.

All of my twitter accounts post updates only. No sales pitches. If I want to have sales pitches tweeted, I pay people to do that.

Yes I am fully agreed with you that if we only tweet our sales then we will be un followed on the twitter. So we have to take the care while tweeting. We have to post the other interesting stuff as well to make our post interesting otherwise no one will give much attention to our posts.

OK, seriously, let's cut the bull*hit here. All of us who are IM'ers and started a Twitter account did it to push our stuff and make more sales. Is that spamming? Nope. Spam is when you send unwanted solicitations to people. Twitter gives people 100% power over who they follow. There is no such thing as Twitter "spam."

You are absolutely correct. That said, as stated above, none of my Twitter accounts are used to push out direct links to sales. I could, but I don't.

Hey John, take a chill pill... it was only a piece of friendly advice! It wasn't a personal attack on people who do Tweet sales pitches ALL THE TIME!

      Cheers, Ray.

If I was more chilled, I'd be in a coma. That despite a 110-degree heat index here in lovely Texas today. Your post was taken as advice, no worries. I just wanted to chime in about why we, as marketers, got on the Twitter bandwagon. It wasn't to talk about quilting clubs and how cute our kids are. It was to sell stuff. Setting out with a plan not to send sales pitches all the time is planning to sell stuff. Hopefully you see that. We shouldn't delude ourselves into thinking the goal is any different, whether you hit your followers with sales pitches all of the time or only some set % of the time (which is part of your overall selling scheme... see?).

One thing to note is that twitter is very powerful if you use it right. Newbies and a lot of seasoned marketers' don't know how to effectively use twitter. They are basically swinging blindly so to speak. That is why the few people that do use twitter effectively, make a lot of money because they know exactly how to market.

Many fail to realize how simple it is to use twitter to get instant targeted traffic while increasing the conversions even before you direct the visitor to your offer. All the best to you all but remember, its insane to keep doing the same things expecting different results.

      This. With a vengeance

It really makes me laugh how people think you can "spam" on Twitter.

If somebody is annoying the hell out of you, with hundreds of promo tweets, then you can simply unfollow them, it's what I do.

    Ah, John... but you forgot...

The AOL/hotmail generation believe that any unwanted or sales communication is spam, even if they quadruple opted in and sent in a coupon.

    Such reasons include:

    - You used the word FREE, and nothing comes free.
    - You asked me to buy something, shock!!!
    - I'm having a bad day.
    - I can't remember signing up.
    - I don't like your new haircut.

    Gotta love the uninitiated.
