Interesting. Would you mind telling me what to expect in term of result from using this method? Can I gain PageRank from it?

No. You can't gain PageRank from it. The link however gets you direct traffic from Wikipedia.org, composed of highly targeted visitors looking for information.

Secondly, I did notice a rise in Search Engine traffic and impressions after adding the links.

Pagerank is 1/200 factors in Google's algo. So, PR is only 0.5% of your SEO worries!

How long do your links stick? I've tried dropping links on wikipedia before, and find they are gone within hours/days.

My links have been in place for over 3 months now.

You will find that I've mentioned a few points regarding this phenomenon of link moderation and removal.

You should leave your links on pages that don't already have lots of links, and preferably those which are rarely moderated...you can find those by looking at the frequency of revisions.

About a month ago I was tipped off about this method of backlinking from wikipedia. Being the adventurous type I set out for wikipedia to find some relevant pages to drop my link on shortly after to put it to the test.

I found 1 page that was very relevant for my niche and added my link to an appropriate section. The link is still there after 1 month, and it's my site's second biggest source of traffic now after only 4 weeks!

I recently went back and added 4 more links to other sites in relevant pages, and am looking for more!

This is a quality tip, thanks!

        Cool!

I'm sure several others have been using this method for longer than either of us!

Let's hope it keeps working for a long time

Just cant expect that wikipedia is being SEOd..that's maybe the reason why they always have high page rank aside from the fact that their must be viewed because its informative.

Now im trying to use that here

      Nice report.

But as an experienced Wiki Editor I missed some infos that would be useful for newbie Wiki editors, like showing the Wiki Syntax and some advice on good editing practices, to have your links not being edited by someone else because they don't follow standards and higher potential of being removed because of that.

Also, some countries of Wikipedia (like the german one) have started using a Wiki addon that was offered on their Labs website some time now, that allows specific pages to be marked as quality or draft versions. It becomes more difficult to put links on pages that are protected this way. This is something to consider, when using this link building strategy so you don't put a lot of effort for links that might not show ever up.

My advice too: DON'T SPAM your links to wikipedia. You are not going to do any good to you like that. If you place links, do it ONLY in the proper articles and add some value or I don't believe your links will live for long.

    Hi Guys!

I've been away for a few months now, focusing on non-financial matters

Regarding Wikipedia links, I just found out about two more great advantages...

When you add a link to a Wikipedia page, it gets copied to other language versions of the page, thus multiplying the number of inbound links to your site.

Secondly, there are literally thousands of sites/blogs that directly copy pages from the Wikipedia site, and thus your link(s) are also added to at least a hundred sites!

Just wanted to let you guys know about this

    Good Luck with IM!

    Samir
