Pinterest users: How do you get "Pins" onto the main categories ("Everything") page?

I have yet to figure out that site and how to make it tick. I have had an account for a little while and just the other day pinned a couple of things. One was a blanket tutorial that was cool and the other was a taco salad that ended up really good. I have only one follower that happens to be related to me so that shouldn't count. And, she didn't repin it anyway.

But, I woke up this morning to find that a whole lot of people, that I do not know, repinned those two things and shared them.

Don't know "why" and I don't know if I can manipulate it to happen again. One thing I do think is that it takes a little more than just a cool image. I think it also depends on the title comment you create when you do the initial pinning yourself. It needs to be structured in a way that it "validates" the reason for clicking the image and repinning and/or sharing it on fb.

Just my 2cents worth, I'm still trying to figure it all out myself.

I'm no pinterest expert, but I've been playing around with it trying to help my girlfriend grow her audience for her style blog (seemed like a great place to get some traffic from).

Make sure that the board you're pinning to is assigned. (ie: It it doesn't say "Help other people find this board by adding a category" at the top of the pin board - they are not automatically set). Also, make sure you have some followers.. haha.

Assuming you are able to put a "check!" next to both of those things, then you should also be aware that anything you pin on the "Everything" board will only be on it for mere moments. To keep it near the top there, you'll need others to pin it to their own boards. Re-pins don't seem to bump the photo.

Try going to it and hitting the refresh button every few seconds... it doesn't take long for the first photo in the list when you started to be #20.. or #30.. or #50.. or not even there anymore.

If you find it's falling in position without getting re-pins...

Be sure to include a keyword in the description of your pins so people can find them later. For instance, I often search "copywriting" and browse through examples of great copy that's found its way into print.

Each time I perform that search, I get a bunch of pictures with "copywriting" written in the description.

Pinterest is a fluid beast.

Last month, ALL pins (if you assigned them to a category) were pinned on the main category page.

About 2 weeks ago they made changes as the IM'ers are smacking it with auto pins and multiple accounts.

The new "rule" now is you get ONE pin per 12 hours that will go to the main category page. So make it a good one.

Of course this could change at any time

Well, I'm definitely assigning images correctly to my boards, which are also named with appropriate keywords in the titles. I guess maybe what I'm missing is followers - only several to speak of so far. It seems that, short of spending lots of time interacting, posting many pictures - or gaming it, to which I'm not averse since I think the stuff I Pin is still nice to look at and/or leads to useful info, but is hard to get enough exposure to, since the place is fairly dominated by a few individuals - you're not gonna get much traffic.

The secret on how to get on the main page for your keyword or "category" is the amount of "Repins" that you have. Pinterest also takes into consideration the amount of Likes and Comments your pin has to make it "popular". Make sure you keyword optimize your Pin with a proper description and URL. Place it on an appropriately "keyword" named Pinboard as well.

There are a few other tips and tricks but those are the main ones to getting a Popular pin on the main category page or keyword search term page for your niche.

Like many I took an intrest in Pinterest and have been using it with some success to drive traffic to my blogs. Recently Pinterest took some drastic measures to reduce the amount of spammy pins that were appearing. This has really reduced the ability of new accounts to get pins seen under the main catagories.

I also had a lot of trouble getting pins to appear on the public boards, but I did manage to get a few up there. Out of frustration I placed a pin asking if people were wondering where their pins were, and I got more hits that ever before. Pinterest isn't that tough to master. Just takes time and patience as with any other IM technique. Congrats to those who have made from the site!

why aren't my descriptive keywords and hashtags coming up in general pinterest searches for them?

Would buying 1,000 pinterest followers send a redflag??

I think you should spend some time on Pinterest as Pinterest is very Easy to browse and work on pinterest and can be a great marketing tool for IM...

I have alot people getting benifitted from Pinterest only.

I agree with Lisa. It's not hard to get real followers who will re-pin your pins, which in turn will get you more real followers and traffic to your website. It really kind of snowballs after awhile and your numbers will keep growing and growing.

Its very difficult to get real followers on pinterest, It requires long term commitment and big social circle who will repin your post on the basis of your strong presence there and value of the stuff you share on regular intervals.
