Affiliate links in Facebook

Does anyone know how to display Amazon Affiliate links in a Facebook fan page. When i do it shows image but also shows the code?

Could you provide any example? As far as I know, you can remove the code once it appears by selecting and del. Then the link will stay.

You can make your affiliate links on a custom tab using an IFRAME app. Then you can have several links on a page and sort of create a sales page / tab. First Social has an IFRAME tab that anyone can use for free.

Does anyone else know anything about Facebook stripping your Amazon Affiliate link code and inserting their own? See this article:

Sounds like the same thing Pinterest does. The explanation at TinyPineapple is beyond my scope - can anyone else here confirm this? And if so, does cloaking links change anything or stop Facebook from stripping the affiliate ID reference?

Just cloak your links so you won't run into any problems.

Is it OK to direct link to an Amazon product from any kind of posting ie. from forums etc? I know people do it but I was wondering if this is against Amazon's T&C, as we can't disclose the fact that we are affiliates. I have read through Amazon's linkbuilding guidelines but it's not mentioned - not that I can see. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have just checked my amazon aff links and they still have my ref ID in them. I shorten my links with tinyurl with custom alias.

You can cloak links as suggested or forward your own domains to particular products you can also simply promote the products on your blog and send people there to find out more about them/purchase them.

Any risk of losing your wordpress.com url/site due to violation of the wordpress.com TOS/policies against posting affiliate links?

I noticed that this plug in "Simple Urls" does not seem to work on a .org blog that I own. It works fine on a .com blog but not the .org. I’m not really sure why this is the case. I doubt it’s the theme as I’m using pretty much the exact same theme on both. But on the .org I get an “ the page/post you are looking for cannot be found” when I try and set up a redirect. On my .com site the redirect simply works as it’s supposed to.

As far as being allowed by FB I'm not sure. However, I've read that for most people who do that, they do not do well. It feels to spammish to their followers. That said, some people DO manage to do well going that route, so it's kind of up to you, your fans/followers, and how everythings all set up.

I figured out the issue with the .org site and fixed it. Believe it or not all I needed to do was save the permalinks. No changes just save them after I did it worked fine. Sort of odd.

Yes it is mentioned in their FAQ It is a good practice to read FAQ section, it really helped me alot in many cases.

fb does not like direct links to affiliate products, just use pretty link plugin, it works like a charm and has tons of features like click stats, hope that helps.

I see a lot of people putting direct affiliate links on their fan pages, but my personal opinion is that I dont like to spam my fans, otherwise I would lose them. Instead, I link to my own site where I have a product review and get a chance to presell people on the product.

Were you able to install the plugin on a free wordpress.com blog?

I was under the impression that the free wordpress.com accounts did not allow plugins to be installed. Was I misinformed ?

Some sites like LinkBee let you have a custom url (which could include a keyword in link). Plus it shortens the affiliate link and makes it look very neat.

The cluelessness of this forum never ceases to amaze. There is a very simple, Amazon-approved way to add affiliate links to a FB page. If you haven't figured it out yet - which takes like 5 minutes - then I have no idea how you are going to figure out affiliate marketing.

Log in to your Amazon affiliate account and click the "Search for a Product" tab to enter a specific item, or click the "Browse for a Product" tab to click through category links until you find what you want. Alternately, click the "Links & Banners" menu tab, click the "Product Links" option and use the menus to bring up the product you prefer.

Click the item link to access its product page on Amazon. The Amazon page is what your customers see when they click your link on Facebook.


Click the "Share" drop-down menu, then click the "Facebook" option. Log in to your Facebook account when prompted.


Click the drop-down menu next to the Share title to specify whether you want the affiliate link to show up on your own timeline, in a group post or a friend's timeline. Type text to go with your link (if preferred) in the designated text box, then click the "Share Link" button to publish it to your post.

I tried this and it still works. Hope this helps someone!!

Most social networking sites have strict policies regarding spam and since affiliate links alone generate around 90% spam over web and social networks, affiliate links are not officially welcome by social networks. However using redirection and URL shortning, many are still promoting their affiliate links over social networks. Though they are successful so far, however social networks are putting more filters in place to track possible spam via affiliate links and once you are caught, its all over

Do you really believe what you just wrote? "Consequences?" People reluctant to ask questions? LOL. Most people asking have like 5 posts under their belt - they're going to ask regardless and then disappear.

My "harsh" comment was directed to those posters were advocating iframing and redirects, etc. They are terrible for posting those recommendations. All a person has to do is spend a couple of minutes on Amazon and they'll figure out that Amazon takes care of this problem for its associates.
