So has anyone *actually* been banned by FB for scraping User IDs?

Hi folks,

A lot of talk going on about FB's recent changes in the arena of custom audiences (change to ToS and also change to the 'upload custom audience from data file' so that UIDs cannot be uploaded unless you pulled them from your own app.)

However there is still a workaround in that certain apps can convert UIDs to FB emails, which can still be uploaded.

The thing is, people have been scraping UIDs for eons and I've not actually heard of people getting banned. It strikes me that FB's changes may be more about covering their own asses, legally speaking, than about preventing people from uploading scraped lists per se.

Facebook cannot knowingly allow personally identifiable user data to be re-used without premission, and so you have to state that you are not doing this in the Terms for custom audiences.

Otherwise, they would not continue to allow people to upload custom audiences consisting entirely of emails that are _____@facebook.com

Also, FB are getting one heck of an income from direct marketers using uploaded lists and who are able to scale massively because of the big ROI increases they are getting.

Thoughts?

I've also been wondering the same thing. I've been using scraped custom audiences for a while now and I've never had a problem at all. I would have thought it would be quite easy for Facebook to prevent people from uploading scraped emails,.

Are you not worried about being banned? I'm debating whether to use scrapped Facebook emails myself but the risk of being banned permanently is just too damaging in the long term.
